Call for Papers
===============
Intelligent computing is a quite mature field of information and
communication technology covering a hybrid palette of methods and
techniques derived from classical artificial intelligence,
computational intelligence, multi-agent systems a.o. Intelligent
computing is generally known to be computationally intensive from
the point of view of resources required: time, memory, bandwidth. As
this is usually thought to be a drawback, distributed computing is
expected to give an impetus to its practical applications. Moreover,
intelligent techniques have also proved their usefulness to core
distributed computing technologies like: planning & scheduling, load
balancing, replication, resource allocation and management, etc.
Therefore, the emergent field of intelligent and distributed
computing is expected to pose new challenges of adaptation and
fruitful combination of both areas. The aim of this symposium is to
bring together researchers involved in intelligent and distributed
computing to allow cross-fertilization and synergy of ideas and to
enable advancement of researches in the field.
The symposium welcomes submissions of original papers concerning all
aspects of intelligent and distributed computing ranging from
concepts and theoretical developments to advanced technologies and
innovative applications. Papers acceptance and publication will be
judged based on their relevance to the symposium theme, clarity of
presentation, originality and accuracy of results and proposed
solutions. Topics include, but are not limited to, broadly
understood:
- Intelligent service composition and orchestration

Paper Submission and Publication
================================
All accepted papers will be included in the Symposium Proceedings, which
will be published by Springer as part of their series Studies in
Computational Intelligence. Papers should have at most 10 pages length and
must be formatted according to Springer format.
Submissions and reviews are automatically handled by a system provided by
the organizers. Please submit your paper here:

IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine (T-ITB)
CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Issue: Affective and Pervasive Computing for Healthcare
Starting in the 1960s emotion and affective phenomenon research has entered
an Emotion Renaissance era due to new findings establishing the universality
of emotions across the human species along with their evolutionary adaptive
and functional role in 'rational' intelligence (e.g. memory,
decision-making), social intelligence (e.g. communication, adaptation). In
the past decade, additional studies such as the one related in Descarte's
Error (Damasio, 1994), revealed surprising results about the nervous system
organization, suggesting that emotions and affective processes might play an
even more important role in intelligence, health recovery and prevention,
and overall well-being than ever suspected.
These findings on emotions and affects from psychology, neuroscience and
sociology call for innovation in information and communications technology
for enabling, and facilitating intelligent interpretation of affective
health data; decision support systems for diagnostic, computer assisted
health care; remote guidance and virtual reality applications in diagnostic
and therapeutic procedures; privacy security and trust necessary for user
acceptance of technologies; human-computer interfacing and usability
engineering; novel patient modelling; and multimodal intelligent affective
user interfaces.
This special issue will focus on the novel and practical ways, and solid
contributions, to improve affective computing and pervasive technologies. We
welcome papers that focus on novel applications of wireless telemedicine,of
embedded sensor and actuators for affective processing, novel user
interfaces and patient-modeling for use by caregivers and/or patients in a
variety of health care domains, virtual reality and virtual environments for
phychotherapeutic diagnostic, treatment, and support/assistance coaching. We
also encourage surveys of available technologies, and reporting on user
experiences.
Papers that do not focus on affective social processing for healthcare and
applications will
not be reviewed. Specific interests are in (but not limited to) the
following areas:
. Network architectures for wireless telemedicine
. Mobile service platform for continuity of healthcare
. Privacy and security in affective/pervasive healthcare
. Wireless and pervasive networks for telemedicine
. Autonomic wireless sensor networks
. Body area networks
. Affective Signal processing techniques
* Sensors and mobile devices for continuous patient monitoring of
affect-relevant events
* Multimodal integration and fusion for contextual information
processing for health care systems
* Actuators, prompters, and virtual environments/characters for
rehabilitation and behavior modification
* Social Intelligent orthotics
* Privacy architectures for affective medical records
* Issues in healthcare technology standards, interoperability,
security, usability, cost, ethics and privacy, etc
* Emotional and social context awareness
* Context-awareness user-modeling for healthcare
* Implementation and design issues for human-centered socially
intelligent user-interfaces
* User acceptance issues and challenges (patients and caregivers)
Manuscripts must be prepared according to the format of the IEEE
Transactions ( http://bme.ee.cuhk.edu.hk/TITB/) and electronically submitted
to Manuscript Central (http://embs-ieee.manuscriptcentral.com/). In
submitting indicate that the paper is intended for the Special Issue on
Affective and Pervasive Computing for Healthcare.

Call for Papers: Data Intensive Computing Minitrack at HICSS-42
Data intensive computing is concerned with creating scalable solutions
for capturing, analyzing, managing and visualizing multi-terabyte and
petabyte data volumes and data streams. Such data stores exist in a
diverse range of application domains, including scientific research,
bio-informatics, cyber security, astronomy, social computing and
commerce. Innovative hardware and software technologies to address these
problems must scale to meet these ballooning data volumes and
simultaneously reduce the time needed to provide effective data
analysis.
This minitrack will bring together contributions from leading
international research and industry groups that address some of the
emerging problems and solutions in the area of data intensive computing.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to software
architectures, storage and network systems, novel hardware platforms,
data provenance, visualization data stream processing, workflow and
integration platforms and application case studies.
Minitrack Focus
Creating breakthrough technologies to address many key data intensive
computing problems will require the integration of results from various
disciplines in computer science, engineering and mathematics. For
example, the following are all part of the jigsaw of pieces required by
data intensive computing solutions, and hence are relevant topics for
the minitrack:
* New algorithms that can scale to efficiently search and process
massive data sets.
* New meta-data management technologies that can scale to handle
complex, heterogeneous and distributed data sources.
* Advances in high-performance computing platforms to provide uniform
high-speed memory access to multi-terabyte data structures.
* Specialized hybrid interconnect architectures to process and filter
multi-gigabyte data streams from high-speed networks and scientific
instruments and simulations.
* High-performance, high reliability, petascale distributed file
systems.
* New approaches to software mobility, so that algorithms can execute on
nodes where the data resides when it is too expensive to move the raw
data to another processing site.
* Flexible and high performance software integration technologies that
facilitate 'plug and play' integration of software components running on
diverse computing platforms to quickly form analytical pipelines.
* Data signature generation techniques for data reduction and rapid
processing.
* Application case studies in data intensive computing
Please feel free to contact the organizers below to discuss possible
paper topics.

3rd International Workshop on Secure Information Systems (SIS'08)
October 20-22, 2008, Wisla, Poland
http://www.sis.imcsit.org/
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The 3rd International Workshop on Secure Information Systems (SIS'08)
will be held in Wisla, Poland on October 20-22, 2008, in conjunction
with the International Multiconference on Computer Science and
Information Technology.
The SIS workshop is envisioned as a forum to promote the exchange of
ideas and results addressing complex security issues that arise in
modern information systems. We aim at bringing together a community of
security researchers and practitioners working in such divers areas as
networking security, antivirus protection, intrusion detection,
cryptography, security protocols, and others. We would like to promote
an integrated view at the security of information systems.
As information systems evolve, becoming more complex and ubiquitous,
issues relating to security, privacy and dependability become more
critical. At the same time, the global and distributed character of
modern computing - typically involving interconnected heterogeneous
execution environments - introduces many new and challenging engineering
and scientific problems. Providing protection against increasingly
sophisticated attacks requires strengthening the interaction between
different security communities, e.g. antivirus and networking. New
technologies lead to the emergence of new threats and attack strategies,
involving smart mobile devices, peer-to-peer networks, instant
messaging, VoIP, mesh networks or even networked consumer devices, such
as house appliances or cars. Furthermore, the increasing openness of the
communications infrastructure results in novel threats and can
jeopardize critical enterprise and public infrastructure, such as
industrial automation and process control systems. Not only it is
estimated that half of all Web applications and Internet storefronts
still contain some security vulnerabilities, but secure commerce
applications are also exposed to increasingly elaborate attacks,
including spyware, phishing and other social engineering methods.
In order to develop a secure system, security has to be considered in
all phases of the lifecycle and adequately addressed in all layers of
the system. At the same time, good engineering has to take into account
both scientific and economic aspects of every solution: the cost of
security has to be carefully measured against its benefits - in
particular the expected cost of mitigated risks. Most companies and
individuals treat security measures in information system as a
necessary, but often uncomfortable, overhead. The increasing penetration
of computing in all domains of everyday life means that security of
critical business systems is often managed and maintained by personnel
who are not knowledgeable in the field. This highlights the importance
of usability and ease of configuration of security mechanism and protocols.
Covered topics include (but are not limited to):
* Access control
* Adaptive security
* Cryptography
* Copyright protection
* Cyberforensics
* Honeypots
* Information hiding
* Intrusion detection
* Network security
* Privacy
