Game-theory offers a formal mechanism for studying complex interactions
between multiple rational participants. The emergence of the internet as a
dominant communication platform has brought to the surface many interesting
game theoretic problems that arise from the interplay of the entities that
manage and use the internet. Algorithm and network designers, in general,
are interested in analysing outcomes of these interactions. This has
resulted in the formation of the new research area of algorithmic game
theory which brings together two important scientific fields: economics and
computer science.
Algorithmic game theory also covers problems that arise outside the
internet. In this new research area, games are studied from the perspective
of algorithmic issues which, for example, include the design of algorithms
that compute equilibria, measurement of equilibria quality, and generally
the design of new games that can be analysed with algorithmic techniques.
In this special issue, we invite the submission of papers in the broad area
of algorithmic game theory. The objective is to publish a selection of high
quality papers which span different areas in this research field.

2008 Second IEEE International Workshop on Web X.0 (WebX 2008)

2008 Second IEEE International Workshop on Web X.o (WebX 2008)
Co-located with IEEE 2008 Services Congress
(http://conferences.computer.org/services/2008)
July 8-11, 2008, Hawaii, USA
Sponsored by IEEE Computer Society
Technical Committee on Services Computing (http://tab.computer.org/tcsc)
The Web 2.0 phenomena have become very popular and attractive in recent
years. Accompanying Web 2.0 phenomena there?re both technology challenges
as well as business challenges.
The word ?Web X.o? represents ?Web eXpandoo? which is derived from ?Web?
and a misspelled word ?Expandnoon?. ?noon? is interpreted as ?the highest,
brightest, or finest point or part? or ?the highest point?. (Source:
Liang-Jie Zhang , Hong Cai, Service HyperChain Architecture of Web X.o and
A Case Study, IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2007),
July 2007, pp. 968-975 )
The goal of the Web X.o Workshop is to provide a forum for researchers
and practitioners to exchange ideas on how to expand the current Web to
the ?highest and brightest? point. As an example, the key concept of
Services HyperChain in the Web eXpandoo framework was introduced to
provide an enabling technology architecture that supports the future Web,
which coordinates multimedia presentations, human interactions, business
processes, computing resources, and business applications in a uniform
fashion.
We would rather call the next generation of services environment as Web
X.o (?o? represent open, not ?0? from version point of view). There are
some significant aspects of Web X.o.
First, from architecture perspective, Web eXpandoon needs an extensible
and configurable architecture so the community efforts can be applied to
the growth of the Web.
Second, eXpandoon provides presentation technologies that support flexible
and seamless view constructing and communication with back servers.
With the extension in the third dimension, we can expect stronger support
to build flexible service value chain, and provide better value-added
services within the dynamic service ecosystem.
IEEE WebX 2008 is co-located with the 2008 IEEE Service Congress in
Hawaii. WebX 2008 will help us explore a natural evolution of Web
Services/SOA over Internet in a broadened sense.
The following topics concerning Web X.o are of interest, but not limited
to:
* Web 2.0 Technology Practices
- e.g., AJAX, Really Simple Syndication (RSS), ATOM
- Ruby on Rail, Php for Web X.0, etc.
- Application mash-up over Web 2.0
* Web 2.0 Applications
- Web 2.0 in mobile communications (e.g., 3G)
- Web 2.0 for knowledge sharing
- Web 2.0 desktop applications
- Web 2.0 based Podcast and Videocast solutions
* Open source and open community for Web X.o
* Virtual and visual business (V-business) in 3D Web X.o
- E.g., application of 3-D/virtual worlds technologies in business,
learning, and other domains
* Social network analysis and complex network theory applied to digital
community
- E.g., how opinions are formed and propagated in a digital community
* Innovative business models and economic models of Web X.o
- E.g., the foundation underneath FaceBook, MySpace, YouTube, etc.
* Challenges and practices of integrating of Web 2.0 and Service-Oriented
Architecture (SOA)
* Web X.o and the future technologies

SDMAS'08: Second International Workshop on Scalable Data Management Applications and Systems
http://www.arcos.inf.uc3m.es/~jdaniel/sdmas08/
* Best papers to be published in Journal of Supercomputing
The SDMAS'08 workshop will take place within
The 2008 International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Processing
Techniques and Applications
Las Vegas Nevada, USA
July, 14-17 2008
WORKSHOP SCOPE
Data management is becoming a more and more important issue in every
kind of computing system. High-performance computing, data
visualization, multimedia and data mining systems are examples of
application areas where input/output and storage are critical issues for
performance. A key challenge in those areas is how to transfer large
amounts of data in and out of large-scale systems, like clusters, Grids
and peer-to-peer systems. Another key point is how to transfer large
amount of data in a timely manner. The aim of the workshop is to
identify, discuss, and share the barriers and workarounds that have been
discovered in the storage and input/output fields.
Compute and I/O-intensive applications, as represented by the Grand
Challenge problems, multimedia, cosmology simulation, climate modeling
and collaborative large-scale visualizations, large data acquisition
networks, data fussion and integration to name just a few, call for
innovative approaches to alleviate the I/O devices and networks(both
bandwidth and file access) bottlenecks.
The advent of commodity (COTS) hardware platforms has opened up numerous
possibilities in massive data gathering and storage, scalable systems,
and large-scale simulations. The goal of this workshop is to bring
together educators, researchers, developers and vendors to discuss
problems and solutions in the former areas, to identify new issues, and
to shape future research and development directions. We are soliciting
papers reporting original work on, but not limited to the following
TOPICS
* File systems, protocols and storage management for parallel and
distributed systems, including supercomputers, clusters, grid, peer to
peer, and embedded systems.

distributed web systems, web clusters, web applications architecture,
mobile applications, web services, load balancing, availability and
reliability of web systems, web caching, web replication, edge services,

* High performance I/O, including massively parallel storage
architectures, data and meta-data consistency, allocation and
utilization strategies for exploiting parallel and distributed memory,
Ad-hoc parallel file systems, parallel I/O architectures, compilers and
I/O APIs, etc.
* Parallel and distributed databases, including OLAP, replication
schemes, optimal data allocation, multidimensional analysis, access
patterns, data declustering, Client Caching Data Management Systems,
index distribution schemes, memory management techniques, etc.

---- Eighth Smart Card Research and Advanced Application Conference ----
--------------------------- CARDIS 2008 --------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
URL: http://www.scc.rhul.ac.uk/CARDIS/
The eighth Smart Card Research and Advanced Application IFIP Conference,
organized by IFIP Working Groups WG 8.8 and WG 11.2, will be held in
Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham, Surrey, UK. Since 1994,
CARDIS has been the foremost international conference dedicated to smart
card research and applications. Every two years the scientific community
congregates to present new ideas and to discuss recent developments.
Also in 2008, forty years after Jürgen Dethloff and Helmut Grötrupp
filled their idea of incorporating an integrated circuit in an
identification card, CARDIS'08 will bring together leading researchers
and practitioners in the development and deployment of state-of-the-art
smart card technologies. The fast evolutionary process in the field of
information security requires adequate means to represent humans in the
process of human-machine interactions. Smart cards, or by extension
smart devices with their processing power and their direct correlation
to the user are considered to be the first choice. In rather young and
new realms, such as pervasive computing, smart cards and devices face
new challenges. Today, the capabilities of smart cards and devices with
their highly advanced specialized security features reach a wide variety
of applications. They are the basis for many secure systems and play a
decisive role in ID management. Established computer science areas like
hardware design, operating systems, modeling systems, cryptography or
distributed systems got adapted to this fast growing technology and
investigate emerging issues resulting from it. Unlike events devoted to
commercial and application aspects of smart cards, CARDIS conferences
gather researchers and technologists who focused on all aspects of the
design, development, deployment, validation and application of smart
cards or smart personal devices.
-----------------
Conference Scope:
-----------------
The program committee is seeking papers describing the design,
development, application and validation of smart card technologies.
Submissions across a broad range of smart card development phases are
encouraged, from exploratory research and proof-of-concept studies to
practical applications and deployment of smart card technology. As a
response to the growing development of contactless applications and RFID
systems, a special interest is also devoted to low cost cryptographic
mechanisms and physical security of constrained devices. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to:
- From smart cards to smart devices (hardware, form factor, display)
- Software environments for smart cards and devices (OS, VM, API)
- Smart cards and devices networking and high-level data models
- Smart cards and devices applications, development and deployment
- Person representation and biometrics using smart technologies
- Identity, privacy and trust issues for smart technologies
- High-speed, small-footprint implementations of cryptographic algorithms
- Attacks and countermeasures in hardware and software
- Cryptographic protocols for smart cards and devices
- Biometrics and smart cards
- Formal modeling of environments and applications
- Interplay of TPMs and smart cards
- Security of RFID systems
----------------
Important Dates:
----------------
- Submission of papers: Extended Deadline February 23th, 2008
- Notification of acceptance: May 1st, 2008
- Camera-ready version of papers: June 15th, 2008
- Workshop date: September 8-11th, 2008
----------------------------------
Papers submission and proceedings:
----------------------------------
Submitted papers should present novel contributions related to the
topics listed above. They must be original, unpublished, anonymous and
not submitted to another conference or journal for consideration of
publication. Papers must be written in English, they should not exceed
15 pages. Submissions not meeting these guidelines risk rejection
without consideration of their merits. All submissions will be blind-
refereed. Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts (PDF or PS
format) by filling in the submission form available on the following web
site: http://www.scc.rhul.ac.uk/submissions/.
Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to
register and present the paper. The proceedings will be published as a
Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science volume.
