The main way of accessing content on contemporary Web is by means of
general purpose search engines. However, for reasons such as: password
protection, FORM based interfaces and usage of dynamic client-side
technologies (JavaScript, AJAX, Flash, Adobe Air, and others), a
significant portion of modern Web content cannot be indexed and thus is
unavailable to the majority of Web users.
In many cases these information sources that cannot be indexed, known
altogether under the names of Deep Web, Hidden Web or Invisible Web, are
better structured and of better quality than indexable surface Web
sources. First attempts to index deep Web sources are proving that the
task is not trivial.
Started recently, Deep Web research combines challenges from several
active research areas including information retrieval, information
extraction, hypertext, Web engineering, data integration, database
technologies and the Semantic Web.
The goal of this workshop is to bring researchers and practitioners
together to explore the issues and challenges related to domain
dependent and independent Deep Web empirical studies, methodologies and
techniques of accessing and processing Deep Web content, as well as
their real life applications.

The Internet has emerged as a network which enables a vast range of interactions between businesses and government organizations and individuals. These interactions are classified as B2C (business to consumer), B2B (business to business) and C2C (consumer to consumer) creating ever growing forms of Internet connectedness. This connectedness enables a vast range of self-service opportunities via the Internet. Self-Service in the Internet Age explores attitudes and behaviors to this new form of self-service provision. It focuses on how services are used and viewed by those who choose to use or not use them in a variety of contexts such as personal banking, shopping, travel, education, and health.

In Conjunction with CAiSE’09
The 10th Workshop on Business Process Modeling, Development, and Support
BPMDS'09
http://lams.epfl.ch/conference/bpmds09
Drivers of Business Process Development: Business, IT, Compliance
8-9 June, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
sponsored by IFIP WG8.1 (International Federation for Information Processing
Working Group 8.1)
New business processes are created and existing ones evolve following
different kinds of drivers or motivations. BPMDS’08 was dedicated to
business process life-cycle, discussing issues such as how to streamline
transitions among phases in the life-cycle of a business process (design,
deployment, operation-evaluation). The next BPMDS will be devoted to the
drivers related to these phases and to their transitions, and how they can
be accommodated into a broader and dynamic view of the business process
life-cycle. The research question will be what "drives" the wheel (the
business process life cycle) when it turns to reach a moving business target
with regard to market changes and continuous improvement requirements.
We distinguish three groups of these drivers, which can exist separately or
in any combination in real life situations.
First, business objectives and goals drive the creation and evolution of
business processes. Evolution of business processes can be driven by
attempts to improve the achievement of business objectives (based on their
measurement), or by the need to adapt to changes in these objectives.
Research issues related to business drivers include their systematic
identification, integration into process design and evolution, performance
measurement, and others.
Second, the availability of new IT systems (any kind of
components-on-the-shelf) can drive both the creation and evolution of
business processes. The introduction of new information systems can enforce
or enable or require the design of new business process; new possibilities
of business process management or assessment can drive the evolution of the
processes. Research issues related to IT drivers include business process-IT
alignment, process mining and others.
Third, the need to comply with external standards and regulations may drive
the creation of new business processes and the evolution of existing ones.
Research issues related to compliance drivers include constrained process
design, compliance assurance and verification, and others.
There may be other drivers that do not fall in any of these categories, and
they are of interest to the workshop as well.
About the Workshop
The BPMDS series has produced 9 workshops from 1998 to 2008. Seven of these
workshops, including the last six (BPMDS’03 – BPMDS’08) were held in
conjunction with CAiSE conferences.
The topics addressed by the BPMDS workshops are focused on IT support for
business processes. This is one of the keystones of Information Systems
theory. We strongly believe that any major conference in the area of
Information Systems needs to address such topics independently of the
current fashion. The continued interest in these topics on behalf of the IS
community is reflected by the success of the last BPMDS workshops and the
recent emergence of new conferences devoted to the theme.
The goals, format, and history of BPMDS can be found on the web site:
http://www.ibissoft.se/bpmds.html
Topics for Discussion
The discussion will address the following main questions:
· What are the drivers or factors that initiate/demand change in
business processes
· How to cope with/introduce changes required by different drivers
· How to discover that it is time for a change
· How to discover that change has already happened
(uncontrollable changes), and there is a need to explicitly change process
definitions/operational instructions.
Specific issues related to these main questions include but are not limited
to:
· Specific drivers and how they affect the business processes
· Assessing the extent to which business process initiatives achieve
their goals
· Methodologies for business process design to follow specific
drivers
· Methodologies for goal-oriented process design and evolution
· Compliance-oriented business process design and evolution
· Business-IT alignment through business processes
· Shareholder, stakeholder, customer and market requirements on
business processes
· Assessing the impacts of IT market power, IT market evolution, IT
standards on
- business processes
- business strategy
- IT strategy
· Assessing the impacts of IT Governance on business processes and
IT processes
· The role of process mining in business process evolution
Submissions
Prospective workshop participants are invited to submit a paper related to
one or more of the main topics. The paper selection will be based upon the
relevance of a paper to the main topics, as well as upon its quality and
potential to generate relevant discussion. Three kinds of submissions are
possible. (1) Full papers of up to 13 pages in LNCS format (please follow
the instructions at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html). (2)
Short position papers of up to 6 pages, devoted to research in progress or
to visionary ideas. (3) Industrial experience papers of up to 6 pages (see
guidelines in http://www.ibissoft.se/users/ilia/exp_guidelines.htm). The
papers should be emailed to Selmin.Nurcan(a)univ-paris1.fr, indicating the
kind of paper submitted.
Publications
Accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings (joint with
EMMSAD), to be published by Springer LNBIP.
After the workshop, the workshop material together with a selection of the
best papers will be considered for publishing in a special issue of an
international journal (previous special issues were for instance, BPMDS'07
in IJBPIM (under edition), BPMDS'06 in IJBPIM, vol. 3, issue 1, 2008,
BPMDS'05 in SPIP, vol. 12, issue 1, 2007)

CALL FOR PAPERS (SPECIAL ISSUE)
INFORMATION AND ORGANIZATION
Editor-in-Chief, Daniel Robey, PhD
Green IT/IS: The Role of Information Technology/Systems in
Environmentally Sustainable Organizations
Deadline for submission of papers: June 30th, 2009
Guest Co-Editors:
Marie-Claude Boudreau, University of Georgia (mcboudre(a)terry.uga.edu)
Susan J. Winter, Portland State University (susanwinter59(a)gmail.com)
Recently, issues of environmental, social and cultural sustainability have
received increased attention in the media and in business. Little more
than a moral concern in the past, sustainability is now on the radar
screen of many organizations. Indeed, these organizations are seeking to
change their poor environmental practices resulting in many forms of waste
(e.g., unused resources, energy inefficiency, noise, and emissions) while
improving productivity, reducing costs, and enhancing profitability. The
IT industry has also shown great interest in sustainability, singling out
Green IT as the most important strategic technology for 2008. It is also
expected that the Green IT service market will reach nearly $5 billion by
2013.
A growing body of research on environmental sustainability has been
developing in the fields of management, engineering and ecology. However,
hardly any research on this topic can be identified in the field of
information systems. Information systems have been the greatest force for
productivity improvement in the last half century, offering enormous
convenience and significant benefits. Though information systems have
been implicated in serious environmental threats, they could be of
profound importance in the pursuit of organizational, environmental,
social and cultural sustainability. Indeed, underpinning many
sustainability initiatives is some form of computing power and intelligent
systems. It is clear that the adoption and use of information technologies
and information systems have sustainability implications. Future IT and IS
innovations may expand and exaggerate these effects. Given that little
research attention has been paid to the role of IT/IS in sustainability,
it is unclear how Green IT/IS can or will contribute to or impede
sustainability efforts. In addition, organizations may not fully
appreciate the potential role of IT/IS in sustainability.
The goal of this special issue is to consider how theory can inform green
IT/IS practice, what sustainability lessons can be learned from green
IT/IS practice, and how green IT/IS can play a role in sustainability.
We invite high quality articles related (but not limited to) such topics
as:
1. Development of green IT/IS infrastructure, systems, products,
applications, policies, practices, etc.
2. The role of IT/IS in sustainability
3. Awareness, adoption and diffusion of green IT/IS

ASAC 2009: Creating Knowledge in the New Economy
CALL FOR PAPERS
INFORMATION SYSTEMS DIVISION
Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
6-9 June 2009
Those who enjoyed visiting Canada for AMCIS and ICIS last year have
another opportunity to visit Canada and to participate in an excellent IS
conference. The Information Systems division of the Administrative
Sciences Association of Canada (ASAC) invites you to submit a paper,
symposium, or poster for the 29th Annual Conference which will meet in
Niagara Falls, Ontario, from June 6 to 9, 2009.
The IS Division at ASAC has a history of well-attended and lively, yet
friendly and constructive sessions. IS division participants at ASAC have
also enjoyed excellent distinguished speaker presentations from leading IS
researchers. This year will be no exception as Dorothy Leidner, Ferguson
Professor of Information Systems at Baylor University, is scheduled to be
our guest speaker.
The ASAC IS Division will accept three types of submissions; Papers,
Panels/Symposia/Workshops and Posters. Details for each type are provided
below. All submissions must be made electronically on the conference web
site http://asac2009.somethingon.com (the submission page will be made
available in the near future) to the IS Division in Microsoft Word. On a
separate page, indicate the authors names, addresses, telephone numbers,
fax numbers, and email addresses and to whom all communications should be
directed. Students should also indicate their status and the school in
which they are enrolled. Please make sure that your submission is as
complete as possible in all respects prior to submission since there is
very little time to revise once a submission has been accepted.
Submissions must not have been published or presented elsewhere. All
contributions must be received no later than January 30, 2009, using the
conference web site.
Papers
Papers should not exceed fifteen (15) single-spaced pages in length (Times
New Roman, 11 point), including author information, the paper title,
abstract, footnotes/ endnotes, tables, figures, and appendices but
excluding references. To appear in the Proceedings, papers must conform to
the ASAC Typing Style Guide.
Panels/Symposia/Workshops
Members interested in assembling a symposium or workshop should prepare a
detailed description of its overall purpose and focus and the specific
role of each participant. The submission should include a title, abstract
and relevant information about each presenter.
Posters
The poster format offers authors the opportunity to submit less developed
but high-potential ideas. One-page abstracts of the posters will be
submitted made available to conference attendees, and at the conference,
they will be encouraged to identify posters in which they have an interest
and offer comments to the author(s). The poster session allows researchers
to present their ideas under development to the group in a more relaxed
format, and PhD students are especially encouraged to submit posters.
To participate in the poster session authors should submit a 5-page
(maximum) description of the idea, and should append the phrase Poster
Session to the title of their paper. Authors with accepted posters will
be responsible to present the research at ASAC in the poster session.
Please note that the deadline for submissions will be strictly enforced.
Do not hesitate to get in touch with us for any questions or additional
information.
We look forward to seeing you in Niagara Falls.

4th Int.Workshop on Business/IT Alignment and Interoperability
Amsterdam, June 9, 2009, in conjunction with the CAiSE09 conference.
Papers due: February 22, 2009
http://busital09.isis.tuwien.ac.at/
Organizations are today becoming more and more dependent on their
information systems and other kinds of IT-based support systems to realize
their business strategies, building value networks with partners, and
manging their resources effectively. But how can organizations ensure that
their IT investments are well aligned with the needs of the business? A
number of frameworks and methods have been designed to help managers in
aligning business and IT. Such alignment is a critical early stage
activity to understand how information systems contribute to business
strategy and to set directions for the development and maintenance
processes that follow. Recently, novel methods and techniques based on
conceptual and enterprise modeling have been proposed to support mutual
alignment between business needs and IT solutions. BUSITAL09 is a forum
for practitioners and researchers that want to explore the benefits,
challenges and solutions of business and IT alignment.
Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Frameworks for modeling business strategy: Techniques and methods for
capturing and understanding those components of business strategy that
profoundly impact information systems landscapes.
* Systems methodologies and frameworks for guiding information system
design using relevant information in business strategy
models/definitions, including traceability issues.
* Models, methods, and tools for indicating, analyzing, and measuring
alignment, including business activity monitoring
* Solutions for guiding information systems evolution and adaptation using
relevant information in business strategy models/definitions, including
IT governance.
* Case studies and empirical reports on the benefits and costs of
alignment.
* Business/IT alignment in organizational networks, including co-creation
of value through global networks
* Alignment issues in Service-Oriented analysis and design
