THEME OF THE CONFERENCE: Business processes and social contexts
- reaching beyond the enterprise
It is our pleasure to invite you to submit your work to BIS 2008 conference.
It will take place in May 2008 in Innsbruck and will be jointly organized by
Poznan University of Economics and University of Innsbruck.
The theme of the conference reflects recent developments in providing
services over the Web and efforts in utilizing social phenomena of blogs,
wikis, and folksonomies for advantages of the enterprises and public
administrations. The basic idea behind is to bring services closer to users
and to enable users to leverage the services or even build communities
around services. Web 2.0 and Semantic Web allow for enterprise outreach and
self-service. As it still not clear what Web 2.0 will mean for enterprises
it is a perfect germ for investigations of research papers for BIS 2008.

Grid and utility computing technology has been widely used in areas
such as finance, defence research, medicine discovery, decision
making, and collaborative design. Currently, Grid computing has
started to leverage web services to define standard interfaces for
business services like business process outsourcing, a higher level
outsourcing mode of e-business on demand. The Grid and Utility can
provide people from different organisations and locations with the
opportunity to work together to solve a specific problem, such as
design collaboration. This is a typical dynamic resource sharing and
information exchange. The Grid and Utility computing platform allows
resource discovery, resource sharing, and collaboration in a
distributed environment.
The IJGUC is a high-quality double-blind refereed journal on Grid and
Utility Computing that serves as a forum for individuals in the field
to publish their research as well as for interested readers. IJGUC
will facilitate communication and networking between members of the
Grid and Utility Computing community in a period where considerable
changes are taking place in the field, and will stimulate production

IJAACS is a top venue for high quality research that advances
state-of-the-art contributions addressing foundational, engineering and
technological aspects of communications systems exhibiting emergent and
adaptive behaviour. IJAACS encourages contributions aimed at supporting the
understanding, development, and control of such communication systems based
on sound theoretical models, including but not limited to bio-inspired,
natural computing, game theory and economic models. IJAACS spans complexity,
self-adaptation, autonomic communication, ambient intelligence, and
multi-agent systems.
Many current communication systems and infrastructures, such as the World
Wide Web, Peer-2-Peer systems and ad hoc wireless and sensor networks, have
the characteristic of being decentralised, pervasive and composed of a large
number of autonomous entities. Frequently, communication systems deployed on
such infrastructures need to run in highly dynamic environments, where
content, network topologies and work loads are continuously changing.
Adaptation thus becomes a key feature of a system's behaviour.
In addition, such communication systems involve a social dimension; for
example, the entities within such communication systems can engage in
interactions, discover suitable other participants, negotiate, and perform
transactions. In certain cases, the complexity of the communication system
is such that no centralised or hierarchical control is possible. These
characteristics are similar to those which one finds in self-organising
systems seen in nature, such as physical, biological and social systems.
Objectives
The objectives of IJAACS are to address research being undertaken by an
interdisciplinary research computing community - and to provide a common
platform under which this work can be published and disseminated. It will
lead to the emergence of the desired global result: intelligent
communication systems. IJAACS provides a high-quality platform for this
purpose.
Contents
IJAACS will publish research contributions that significantly advance the
state-of-the-art research in this area. Articles reporting the practical
applications of different theoretical approaches will be of particular
interest to IJAACS. Good quality survey articles will also be of interest to
the journal.

The Second International Workshop on RFID Technology - Concepts,
Applications, Challenges (IWRT'08)
12-13 June 2008, Barcelona, Spain
http://www.iceis.org/workshops/iwrt/iwrt2008-cfp.html
In conjunction with the 10th International Conference on Enterprise
Information Systems (ICEIS'08)
Workshop Background and Goals
-----------------------------
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a wireless communication
technology that uses radio-frequency waves
to transfer information between tagged objects and readers without line
of sight. This creates tremendous opportunities
for linking various objects from real world. These objects are numbered,
identified, catalogued, and tracked.
In recent years, RFID has gained a significant momentum and is emerging
as an important technology for revolutionizing
a wide range of applications including supply chain management, retail,
aircraft maintenance, anti-counterfeiting,
baggage handling, healthcare, just to cite some. In addition, RFID
technology also offers a viable approach to implement physical user
interfaces. The services available in the local environment are
advertised by RFID tags. The users browse the services and activate the
desired service by simply touching the corresponding tag with a mobile
terminal that is equipped with an RFID reader. In the near future, these
user interfaces would introduce RFID tags into our everyday lives.
While RFID provides promising benefits such as inventory visibility and
business process automation, some significant challenges need to be
overcome before these benefits can be realized. One important issue is
how to process and manage RFID data, which is typically in large volume,
noisy and unreliable, time-dependent, dynamically changing, and of
varying ownership. Another issue is how to seamlessly integrate
low-level RFID data into (existing) enterprise information
infrastructures (e.g., upper-level business processes). Finally, given
the ability of inexpensively tagging and thus monitoring a large number
of items and/or people, RFID raises some serious security and privacy
concerns. Indeed, RFID privacy and security are stimulating research
areas that involve rich interplay among many disciplines, like signal
processing, hardware design, supply-chain logistics, privacy rights, and
cryptography.
The workshop's objective is to provide a forum for researchers,
practitioners, and users to exchange new ideas, developments, and
experience on issues related to this emerging field.

3rd International Workshop on
Workflow Systems in e-Science
(WSES 08)
in conjunction with
8th IEEE International Symposium on CCGrid
(http://staff.science.uva.nl/~zhiming/workshop/wses/,
http://ccgrid2008.ens-lyon.fr)
May 2008, Lyon, France
***************************************************
Aims and scope
Grid environments enable collaborations involving large numbers of
people and large scale resources, and promote the emergence of a new
paradigm for scientific research: e-Science. Different layers of
middleware, e.g., for managing Grid resources, computing tasks, data,
and information, form the basic framework for realising an e-Science
environment. By automating the management of experiment routines, a
scientific workflow management system hides the underlying integration
details of the e-Science resources and allows a scientist to focus
on the high level domain specific aspects of the experiments. The
support for scientific workflows is being recognised as a crucial
feature for introducing an e-Science environment to application
scientists from different domains.
The WSES workshop focuses on practical aspects of scientific workflow
management systems: design, implementation, applications in all fields
of computational science, interoperability among workflows and the
e-Science infrastructure, e.g., knowledge framework, for workflow
management.
The workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers and developers
in the field of e-Science to exchange the latest experience and research
ideas on scientific workflow management and e-Science. Live demos of
workflow systems and workflow application are welcome.
The WSES 07 and WSES 06 were successfully held in the context of ICCS
in Beijing in May 29 2007 and in Reading University in May 29 2006.
In both years, the workshop attracted around 30 submissions. Each paper
was reviewed by at least three referees, and 17 papers, including 9 regular
ones and 8 short ones, were accepted. The presentations were organized as
three sessions: scientific workflows applications, system architecture and
middleware, and development issues. A special session for WSES 07 will
appear in the International Journal of Future Generations of Computer
Systems (FGCS). Selected papers of WSES 06 have appeared in a special
issue of Scientific Programming Journal.
Topics
Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts that demonstrate current
research in all areas of scientific workflow management in e-Science. The
workshop solicits novel papers on a broad range of topics, including but
not limited to:
* Workflow infrastructure and e-Science middleware
* Workflow API and graphical user interface
* Workflow modelling techniques
* Workflow specification language
* Workflow execution engine
* Dynamic workflow control
* Workflow verification and validation
* Workflow system performance analysis
* Support tools for managing workflows
* AI techniques in workflow management, e.g., planning, runtime control and
user support;
* Security control in managing workflow
* Real-world applications of scientific workflow
* Different levels of interoperability among workflow systems;
* Automatic composition of scientific workflow;
* Knowledge infrastructure in workflow management;
Paper submission and publication
The papers are limited to 6 pages each and they must follow the IEEE
8.5"x11" two-column format guidelines described at
http://www.computer.org/portal/pages/cscps/cps/cps_forms.html. Workshop
papers will be included in CCGrid proceedings published by IEEE Computer
Society. The papers will also be available electronically in the IEEE
digital library. The procedure for paper submission will be available
here soon. Selected best papers, after extension, will be published in
a suitable international journal as a special issue.
