**** Theme: Intelligent Tutoring Systems: Past and Future *********
The 9th International Conference on Intelligent Tutoring Systems provides a leading international forum for the dissemination of original results in the design, implementation, and evaluation of intelligent tutoring systems and related areas. The conference will draw researchers from a broad spectrum of disciplines ranging from artificial intelligence and cognitive sciences to pedagogy and educational psychology.
The conference explores the real world impact of intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) on an increasingly global scale. Improved authoring tools and learning object standards enable fielding systems and curricula in real world settings on an unprecedented scale. Researchers deploy ITSs in ever larger studies, and increasingly use data from real students, tasks, and settings to guide new research. With high volumes of student interaction data, data mining and machine learning, tutoring systems can learn from experience and improve their teaching performance. Increasing number of realistic evaluation studies also broaden researchers' knowledge about the educational contexts for which ITSs are best suited. At the same time, researchers explore how to expand and improve student-tutor communication, for example, how to achieve more flexible and responsive discourse with students, help students integrate Web resources into learning, use mobile technologies and games to enhance student motivation and learning, and address multicultural perspectives.
ITS'2008 will be supported by a strong international program committee that will ensure full and effective refereeing of all submitted papers.

allocated five pages in the proceedings.
ECAI'08 also accepts posters. Each poster will have two pages allocated in
the proceedings. Posters must follow the same style guidelines as full
papers. Authors may indicate whether they want a submitted full paper to be
considered as well as a submitted poster in case of non-acceptance of the
full paper. Authors sould to submit later on a poster on the same content as
a submitted paper.
All submissions will be subject to academic peer review by the ECAI'08
Program Committee. To allow for anonymous reviewing, the author names in a
submitted paper or poster have to be replaced by the unique tracking number
assigned by the conference system at the submission of a summary form, to be
filled in before February 22nd. Authors should avoid identifying
self-references in their text. Submission of papers that have been presented
earlier in a preliminary form at a national event of an ECCAI member society
is allowed.
Review criteria include the relevance to AI, the significance and scope of
the contribution, its originality, technical soundness, quality of
presentation, and scholarship. Notification of acceptance or rejection of
submitted papers and posters will be mailed to the corresponding author by

Adaptability is a generic property of a system that consists in the
systems capability to self-adjust its behavior according to its input,
load or users in order to meet certain performance criteria. Adaptability
has been described as a characteristic of autonomous behavior and is often
related to possessing learning capabilities through analysis of past
behaviors and interactions. Adaptability has been intensely studied by
various areas of engineering including artificial intelligence, control
systems and human centered systems. Adaptability has been set as an
important requirement for systems devised to work in new generation global
networked and distributed environments like wireless networks, P2P
networks, Web systems, multi-agent systems, grids, etc. Such systems are
expected to pose new challenges for the development and application of
adaptation techniques, due to their special characteristics including:
interconnectivity, interactivity, distribution, heterogeneity and
fault-tolerance.
This special session welcomes submissions covering all aspects of
adaptability in networked systems and media, including (but not limited
to):
- Self-configuring and self-structuring systems
- Adaptive control in communication networks
- Adaptive networked control systems

##################### ATC-08 Call For Papers ######################
The 5th International Conference on Autonomic and Trusted Computing
- Bring Safe, Self-x and Organic Computing Systems into Reality -
http://www.ux.uis.no/atc08/
Organized by
University of Stavanger and Oslo University College, Norway
Technical Sponsorship by the IEEE Task Force on Intelligent Ubiquitous
Computing
Oslo, Norway, June 23-25, 2008
###################################################################
Computing systems including hardware, software, communication and
networks are growing dramatically in both scale and heterogeneity,
becoming overly complex. Such complexity is getting even more
critical with the ubiquitous permeation of embedded devices and
other pervasive systems. To cope with the growing and ubiquitous
complexity, Autonomic Computing (AC) focuses on self-manageable
computing and communication systems that exhibit self-awareness,
self-configuration, self-optimization, self-healing,
self-protection and other self-x operations to the maximum extent
possible without human intervention or guidance. Organic Computing
(OC) additionally emphasizes natural-analogue concepts like
self-organization and controlled emergence.
Any autonomic or organic system must be trustworthy to avoid the
risk of losing control and retain confidence that the system will
not fail. Trust and/or distrust relationships in the Internet and
in pervasive infrastructures are key factors to enable dynamic
interaction and cooperation of various users, systems and services.
Trusted/Trustworthy Computing (TC) aims at making computing and
communication systems as well as services available, predictable,
traceable, controllable, assessable, sustainable, dependable,
persist-able, security/privacy protect-able, etc.
A series of grand challenges exist to achieve practical
self-manageable autonomic systems with truly trustworthy services.
ATC-08 addresses the most innovative research and development in
these challenging areas and includes all technical aspects related
to autonomic/organic computing (AC/OC) and trusted computing (TC).
ATC-08 is a successor of the First Int'l Workshop on Trusted and
Autonomic Ubiquitous and Embedded Systems (TAUES-05, Japan), the
Int'l Workshop on Trusted and Autonomic Computing Systems (TACS-06,
Austria), the 3rd International Conference on Autonomic and Trusted

-- SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS --
=======================================================================
5th European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC2008)
Tenerife, Spain, June 1-5 2008.
========================================================================
The vision of the Semantic Web is to enhance today's Web by exploiting
machine-processable metadata. The explicit representation of the
semantics of data, enriched with domain theories (ontologies), will
enable a web that provides a qualitatively new level of service. It
will weave together a large network of human knowledge and makes this
knowledge machine-processable. Various automated services will help
the users to achieve their goals by accessing and processing
information in machine-understandable form. This network of knowledge
systems will ultimately lead to truly intelligent systems, which will
be employed for various complex decision-making tasks. Semantic Web
research can benefit from ideas and cross-fertilization with many
other areas: Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing,
Databases and Information Systems, Information Retrieval, Multimedia,
Distributed Systems, Social Networks and Web Engineering. Many
advances within these areas can contribute towards the realization of
the Semantic Web.
The 5th Annual European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2008) will
present the latest results in research and applications of Semantic
Web technologies. ESWC 2008 will also feature a tutorial program,
system descriptions and demos, a posters track, a Ph.D. symposium and
a number of collocated workshops. The calls for these events are
separate and can be found on the conference Web site
[http://www.eswc2008.org].
ESWC 2008 is sponsored by STI2, Semantic Technology Institutes
International. For more information on STI2, please visit
[http://www.sti2.org].
========================================================================
Submissions
ESWC 2008 welcomes the submission of original research and application
papers dealing with all aspects of the Semantic Web. We particularly
encourage the submission of papers on industrial efforts and
experiences with Semantic Web projects. We encourage theoretical,
methodological, empirical, and applications papers.
The proceedings of this conference will be published in Springer's
Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Paper submission and
reviewing for ESWC 2008 will be electronic via the conference
submissions site: [http://www.eswc2008.org/submissions.html]. Papers
should not exceed fifteen (15) pages in length and must be formatted
according to the information for LNCS authors.
Papers must be submitted in PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format)
format and will *not* be accepted in any other format. Papers that
exceed 15 pages or do not follow the LNCS guidelines risk being
rejected automatically without a review. Authors of accepted papers
will be required to provide semantic annotations for the abstract of
their submission -- details of this process will be provided on the
conference Web page at the time of acceptance. At least one author of
each accepted paper must register for the conference.
========================================================================
Best Paper Award
An award will be given to the best paper (or papers) submitted to the
conference as judged by the Program Chairs in collaboration with the
Program Committee.
========================================================================
Important Dates

eCommerce event. It has made, and continues to make, substantial
intellectual contributions to progress in “e” research and teaching. In
recognition of this, an Outstanding Paper Award was instituted in 1999.
The Award was established by a group of professors who have been long
associated with the event. A panel of judges will select the winning
author(s) from papers submitted to the Research Stream. The Award will
be evidenced by a plaque presented to the author(s).
C a l l f o r P a r t i c i p a t i o n
This conference attracts speakers and delegates from business,
government, information technology providers and universities and is the
major venue for researchers working in all aspects of “e”. There will be

CALL FOR PAPERS
Artificial Intelligence and Symbolic Computation are two views and
approaches for automating problem solving, in particular mathematical
problem solving. The two approaches are based on heuristics and on
mathematical algorithmics, respectively. Artificial Intelligence can
be applied to Symbolic Computation and Symbolic Computation can be
applied to Artificial Intelligence. Hence, a wealth of challenges,
ideas, theoretical insights and results, methods and algorithms arise
in the interaction of the two fields and research
communities. Advanced tools of software technology and system design
are needed and a broad spectrum of applications is possible by the
combined problem solving power of the two fields.
Hence, the conference is in the center of interest and interaction for
various research communities:
* artificial intelligence,
* symbolic computation,
* computer algebra,
* automated reasoning,
