: Information Systems Journal
:
: Special Issue: Information Systems Investment Evaluation
: **********************************************************
:
: CALL FOR PAPERS
:
: The adoption of Information Technology (IT) and Information
: Systems (IS) offers many organisations the opportunity to
: reap a wide variety of strategic, tactical and operational
: benefits. However, even though many of these benefits are
: suitable for inclusion within traditional accountancy
: frameworks, it is the intangible and non-financial
: benefits, together with the indirect project costs that
: often complicate the justification process. As a result,
: many companies are finding themselves unable to assess the
: 'full' implications of their investments in new technology
: thus, amounting to an appraisal process limited to the
: analysis of those benefits and costs financially
: quantifiable.
:
: The aim of this special issue is to help
: researchers and decision makers in understand the processes
: involved in the justification of the appropriate level of
: IT/IS to adopt. With the help of the articles appearing in
: this special issue, one should be able to better understand
: the justification process necessary to evaluate IT/IS
: deployments, through identifying the constructs associated
: with robust IT/IS investment evaluation.
:
: The scope of the special issue will be to present
: researchers and senior managers with a conceptual and
: empirical basis for justifying a IT/IS infrastructures.
: Emphasis will be placed on IT/IS investment decision making
: in the context of effective capital budgeting and the
: complexities associated with the evaluation of IT/IS
: investments. The prime objective of the special issue is to
: publish original works [quantitative and qualitative] and
: interesting case studies arising from research on the
: evolving approaches and concepts of investment decision
: making. Contributed papers may deal with but are not
: limited to:
:
: · Techniques for ex ante/post IS Investment Appraisal
: · Qualitative and Quantitative Evaluation Techniques
: · Technology Management in Organizations
: · Capital Budgeting and Appraisal of IS Investments
: · Risks of IS Investments
: · Cost/Benefit and Risk Considerations/Realizations
: · Social/Human Aspects of Decision Making
: · IT/IS Performance Measures
: · Macro-economic or Industry-wide Assessment of IT
: · IS Project Management and Control
:
: Submission guidelines and important dates
: Manuscripts should be between 4000-6000 words in length,
: with all contributions being subjected to a double-blind
: review process. There should be a separate title page
: giving the names and addresses of the authors.
:
: Manuscripts must be sent to either guest editor by
: September 30th, 2000, and should follow the format of the
: Information Systems Journal

: Komponentenorientierte betriebliche Anwendungssysteme
: Fachgruppe 5.10
: Modellierung betrieblicher Informationssysteme (MobIS)
:
: THEMA DES WORKSHOPS
: Traditionelle Ingenieurdisziplinen zeichnen sich insbesondere dadurch aus,
: dass in der Regel verbindliche Standards (bzgl. Notation, Benennung,
:
: turowski(a)iti.cs.uni-magdeburg.de.
:
: TERMINE

: CALL FOR CHAPTERS
:
: Business to Business Electronic Commerce: Challenges and Solutions
:
: A book edited by Merrill Warkentin, Northeastern University, USA
: to be published by Idea Group Publishing
:
: Submission deadlines:
: -Proposals by August 4, 2000
: -Chapters by October 13, 2000
:
: All major industry analysts forecast a growth rate for business-to-business (B2B) eCommerce that is
: nothing short of phenomenal. Total B2B eCommerce activity is already larger than B2C eCommerce and
: is growing much faster. This development demands in-depth analysis and deeper understanding. As
: B2B eCommerce becomes the most profitable application for the Internet, we will strive to understand
: the implications of the many technological and market changes that will usher in an entirely new way
: of doing business. This book will provide researchers and practitioners with an authoritative
: source of knowledge related to these changes. Readers will be nourished by fresh approaches to
: understanding the business drivers, value propositions, technologies, trends, and forecasts for this
: major development. The B2B eCommerce revolution includes eProcurement, B2B exchanges, and business
: infrastructure relationships.
:
: Electronic procurement is seller-oriented - firms sell supplies, equipment, materials, and services
: with a streamlined online purchasing function that often eliminates traditional intermediaries,
: thereby reducing costs and cycle times while offering greater flexibility and responsiveness to
: changes in demand. Web-based supply chain management networks improve coordination between trading
: partners by linking a firm's forecasting and production planning systems with its suppliers' and
: distributors' systems. They can create dramatic savings and quality improvements.
:
: B2B exchanges include various categories of marketspaces, including vertical market portals
: ("vortals"), hubs, and various types of auctions. A single infomediary (industry consortium or 3rd
: party) brings together many buyers and sellers within a specific vertical market, such as plastics,
: steel, or industrial chemicals, charging a commission on all transactions. Hundreds of
: industry-specific exchanges have now been launched, and more are being developed every day. Some of
: these marketspaces operate with posted pricing models, while others employ collaborative negotiated
: prices, auctions, reverse auctions, Dutch auctions, and other pricing mechanisms. Many are used in
: spot markets for industrial materials, overstocks, and perishable goods, as well as business
: services transactions.
:
: More important is the development of entirely new eBusiness infrastructure industries. Many firms
: support online activity by facilitating the interaction between various parties in eCommerce as
: preferred outsourcers for eBusiness processes. They have become integral to the effective operation
: of Internet-based activities and may account for the largest source of profits from the future
: growth of eCommerce. They provide digital content or improve its delivery, bring new customers to
: websites, finance acquisitions, and provide many other services. They include application services
: providers, adservers, content maximizers, wireless service providers, and payment processors.
:
: Chapters based on research from both academia and industry are encouraged. Representative topics
: include:
:
: * Conceptual or technological research on the design of effective information technologies for B2B
: exchanges
:
: * Empirical or normative research on business relationships and markets in the new B2B eCommerce
: landscape
:
: * Economic research on the evolving marketspace models and impacts of B2B transactions on prices and
: efficiency
:
: * Organizational research on new organizational forms (virtual organizations, etc.) resulting from
: B2B outsourcing
:
: * Technological research on agents, datamining, filters, content maximizers, and other tools of B2B
: eCommerce
:
: * Conceptual or empirical research on changes to individual firms or markets as they adopt B2B
: exchanges
:
: * Theoretical research on the realignment of industries and markets as B2B eCommerce evolves
:
: * Conceptual or empirical research on global and cross-cultural aspects of B2B eCommerce
:
: * Case studies of firms engaged in cutting-edge developments in B2B technology applications or
: market formation
:
: * Conceptual research on future of B2B eCommerce
:
: SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit, on or before August 4,
: 2000, a 3 page proposal clearly explaining the mission of the chapter. Authors of accepted
: proposals will be notified by August 18, 2000 about the status of their proposals and will receive
: chapter guidelines. Full chapters must be submitted by October 13, 2000. All submitted chapters
: will be reviewed on a blind review basis. The book is scheduled to be published by Idea Group

:
: GENERAL INFORMATION
:
: The 2001 IEEE International Conference on ATM (ICATM'01) is sponsored by
: the IEEE, IEE and WSES. ICATM'01 is organized by academic, research and
: industrial societies will be held at Olympic Parktel, Seoul,
: http://metro.seoul.kr , Korea, from Monday April 23, 2001 to Wednesday
: April 25, 2001 plus Tutorials on Sunday April 22, 2001. The Olympic Park
: is situated at the city of Seoul where the Olympic game was helid in
: 1988, about 20 km(14 miles) north-east of KIMPO International Airport.
: Seoul, the metropolitan captical of Korea located almost in the center of
: the Korean peninsula, has been the hub of the nation's politics, economy,
: culture and transportation. Seoul covers a total of about 600km2, with a
: population of more than 10 million. Just a few steps from many hotels in
: the downtown is Toksugung Palace, Ch'angdokkung Palace, Piwon, the Secret
: Garden, and much more historical/cultural sites to visit. Seoul hosts a
: variety of symphony concerts, operas, and recitals by local and visiting
: musicians. The Seoul Arts Center in the southern part of Seoul, the
: Sejong Cultural Center, located on the main thoroughfare in downtown
: Seoul, the National Theatre in Namsan Park, and the Hoam Art Hall near
: the City Hall offer a wide range of cultural programs and performances.
: There are few cities in the world where the ultra-modern and the ancient
: exist side by side in such perfect harmony. Today, Seoul is a teeming
: metropolis with many first-class Western-style hotels. English is spoken
: at many shops, bars, and restaurants.
:
: For traveling major cities of Korea; by Air, there are two domestic
: Airlines: KAL(ÿrean Air), http://www.koreanair.com and Asiana Airline,
: http://www.asiana.co.kr .
:
: Most of major cities can be reached within an hour by Air.
:
: By Rail, there are three type trains: Tong-il (twice per day), Mugunghwa
: (four times per day) and Saemaul (twice per day). The Saemaul train is
: the fastest one and takes you major cities within 5 hour 30 minutes time
: from SEOUL and the Mugunghwa would take about 6-hour time frame to reach
: at any cities. We do not recommend Tong-il train since it is a slow train
: which stops at each local areas. Many major cities are all within a day's
: reach. One can learn more about Seoul in the Website,
: http://metro.seoul.kr and apersonal prestige, but innate place, That is
: Seoul, the center of the Korean peninsula. We salute you all.

: Workshop der DCSCW 2000 "Verteiltes Arbeiten - Arbeit der Zukunft":
:
: Kommunikation und Kooperation in Knowledge Communities
: ======================================================
:
: am 12.9.2000, 13.00-18.00 Uhr, in München

: V. Wulf ProSEC, Institut für Informatik III, Universität Bonn &
: Internationales Institut für Sozio-Informatik, Bonn
:
: Beschreibung
:
: Einbindung schwach motivierter Nutzergruppen ("casual user")?
: Gemeinschaften (Geo-graphical Virtual Communities, z.B. Digitale Städte,
: Bürgernetze) und rein-virtuelle Gemeinschaften (Virtual Communities,
: z.B. MUD-User).
:
: Deadlines:
: Einreichungen 11.7.2000
: Benachrichtigung über die Teilnahme 23.7.2000
: (Verbilligte Anmeldung DCSCW: 1.8.2000)

:
: In the information technology field, there is an increasing interest in
: forming partnerships between academic departments at universities, the IT
: industry, and non-profit organizations. These partnerships can be mutually
: beneficial. For instance, students can work with local schools to assist
: them with their technology needs, and at the same time, get hands-on
: experience working with real users. Industry managers can help guide the
: curricula in IT programs, and provide guest lectures for courses, which
: will give students an idea of current trends in industry. Well-designed
: partnerships can provide interaction between students, faculty, and
: industry and may give students real-world experience working with users.
: This track will explore the many types of partnerships possible, and the
: issues involved in forming a successful partnership.
:
: Possible topics:
: (submissions are not limited to these topics)

: - Partnerships for training needs in the community
