: Collaboration Systems and Technology Track of HICSS-34
:
: The minitrack on Community Development deals with the impact
: of the use of information systems on groups and
: organizations, particularly as it relates to formal and
: informal networks.
:
: Community development efforts have a long, checkered history
: with information systems. Recently, declining entry
: barriers and Web ubiquity have spurred IS use for community

: development. Issues for community development must be
: addressed in the IS context. Examples of such issues
: include social capital and social networks.
:
: This is not a solicitation for tools to support new online
: communities, but for two kinds of papers.
:
: (1) We seek research on tools to support development for
: existing communities, at levels ranging from local to

: CALL FOR PAPERS
:
: The purpose of the IWSSD series is to explore major trends and
: key issues in the specification and design of software
: systems. The tenth workshop, like its predecessors, seeks to
: provide a forum in which proponents of and experimenters with
: different theories, methods, and techniques can interact in an
: informal yet focused setting. The program will be organized
: around parallel working groups and plenary sessions to report on
: progress made within each group. Attendance is limited, by
: invitation only based on paper submission.
:
: The IWSSD program committee is requesting papers outlining novel
: positions, technical research or experience. Contributions are
: sought across the broad range of work in software specification
: and design. Submitted papers should make a case for the
: significance and originality of the work and clearly describe
: (preliminary) results, infrastructure or exploratory studies on
: which the work is based. Of particular interest is the rationale
: underlying the work, particularly if it identifies gaps in
: research or difficulties not yet well understood. Papers should
: not exceed eight pages, including figures. Submissions will be
: refereed, and a selection will be included in the workshop
: proceedings. Technical papers will be evaluated for originality,
: significance, soundness and clarity. Experience papers will be
: evaluated for significance of the lessons and insight gained from
: exploring advanced methods and techniques. Position papers will
: be evaluated for their reasoned presentation of a point of view
: pertinent to workshop themes. The best technical and experience
: papers may be considered for publication in a special issue of a
: major software engineering journal.
:
: Focus of the Workshop
:
: The focus of IWSSD is on the current state of the art and future
: opportunities for software tool support in each of the following
: areas:
:
: * REQUIREMENTS ENGINEERING: elicitation, formal and conceptual modeling,
: domain analysis, scenario-based analysis, viewpoints, traceability,
: simulation, and prototyping.
: * DESIGN ENGINEERING: method definition and integration, design processes and
: strategies, derivation of designs from requirements,
: co-design. composition/decomposition, domain-specific architectures,
: interoperability, integrating non-functional properties, evolution and
: refinement.
: * VERIFICATION and VALIDATION: formal methods, model checking,
: specification-based testing and analysis, quality attributes, quality
: control and assurance, dependability.
: * REAL-TIME, CONCURRENT and DISTRIBUTED SYSTEMS: capturing and formalizing
: temporal constraints, logics of time, semantics of concurrency,
: specification/analysis of concurrent systems, decomposition and distribution
: techniques and strategies.
:
: A common case study will be used to drive the program. (See
: http://www.ics.uci.edu/iwssd/case-study.pdf). Prospective participants are
: strongly encouraged, though not strictly required, to use this case study in
: support of their submission. Full treatment of the case study may be included
: as an appendix to a submitted paper. The case study is available as ascii,
: word, pdf, or postscript. Comments and additional information on the case
: study will be periodically updated on a related notes page.
:
: SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
:
: Papers must be submitted by 6 AM PST, Monday, May 1, 2000. The submission
: process will be carried out electronically via the Web.

: INTRODUCTION:
:
: The increasing use of networking, coupled with an increasing distribution in the
: operations of organisations, results in increasing problems of administration,
: management and control of information and co-ordination of work. With the aim of
: providing solution to such problems, research into Computer Supported
: Co-operative Work (CSCW) is concerned with investigating approaches and
: technologies for the support of group work, both within and among organisations,
: in which the group members may be distributed geographically.
: In parallel with the advances made in CSCW in recent years there have been
: interesting developments in the fields of Intelligent Agents and Distributed
: Artificial Intelligence (DAI), notably in the concepts, theories and deployment
: of intelligent agents as a means of distributing computer-based problem solving
: expertise. The concept of intelligent agents has given rise to an exciting new
: technology of wide potential applicability. In particular, the paradigm of
: multi-agent systems, which is also a focus of interest for researchers in
: distributed artificial intelligence, forms a good basis for
: (i) the design of CSCW architectures, and
: (ii) the support of CSCW operations.
: The application of a multi-agent approach to CSCW can help to make information
: exchange among the participants easier, provide support to the participants
: (e.g. in the form of Decision Support Systems), assist workflows and procedures,
: and represent the user in a CSCW system.
: But, the introduction of intelligent agents into CSCW systems as well as into
: legacy information systems leads to potential new risks, e.g. unauthorised
: information gain, unauthorised modification of information, unauthorised
: derogation of functionality, or inadmissible loss of connection. Endowing agents
: with intelligence increases the risks and threats, compared with conventional
: communications and information systems.
:
: SUBMISSION:
:
: Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
: - user agents in CSCW systems
: - DAI architectures and CSCW systems,
: - security aspects of agent-based CSCW systems,
: - intelligent agents in CSCW (e.g. for decision support,
: coordination, automation)
: - applications of agent-based/mediated CSCW
:
: Contributions to the workshop should not exceed 8 pages in length and should be
: emailed (electronic version) or posted (paper version, 5 copies) to one of the
: contact persons below.
: Final versions must conform to the ACM format. Formatting instructions can be
: found at http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html
:
: All accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings. In addition,
: we will invite authors of selected papers to submit an extended versions of

: CALL FOR PAPERS
:
: 2nd International Workshop on the World Wide Web
: and Conceptual Modeling (WCM2000)
:
: held in conjunction with
:
: 19th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER2000)
:
: October 9-12, 2000, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA www.er2000.byu.edu/wcm2000
:
: SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP
:
: The Web is voluminous, dynamic, information and data intensive, and
: varies from completely unstructured to fully structured. Despite this
: Web chaos, all sectors of our global society use the World Wide Web to
: further such goals as electronic commerce, information acquisition, and
: information dissemination. How can we harness this vast mass of
: potential information to further these and other similar goals?
:
: In this workshop, we propose to explore ways we can apply conceptual modeling
: to address these challenges. In particular, we wish to consider building
: conceptual data models to describe knowledge about patterns of data, about
: objects in our models, and about interactions among these objects and with
: Web users. These conceptual models should provide the basis for high-quality
: organization, presentation, search, information extraction, intelligent
: caching, electronic business processing, and Web site development and
: management.
