XOTclLib is a library of debugging, logging, profiling, documentation, tracing, serialization, and unit-testing utilities. [volatile] documented in wrong section?

In the online reference manual, the volatile method is documented under Class, meaning it would be a class procedure. However the way it is demonstrated is: Object new -volatile Which would mean the object's [volatile] method is called. If [volatile] was actually a class procedure, then the object instance would not see it. In fact, it makes little sense that it would be a class procedure instead of one that can be applied to any object. Or have I missed something here? In a similar vein, can [volatile] be called at any point, not just during object instantiation? I might be getting an object returned from somewhere else and, in that proc, I may want to make it volatile so as to not have to worry about the point of destruction. / http://www.fishpool.com/~setok/

compilation problem

Hi! I try to compile XOTcl 1.4.0 against Tcl 8.4.13 for using it with Naviserver (Head). How do I get a parameters default-value?

package require XOTcl namespace import xotcl::* # Let's say, I got: Class X -parameter { {p1 val1A} } X create x1 -p1 x1val1 # ... # Now I change the default-values X parameter { {p1 val1B} } X create x2 -p1 x2val1 # How do I get the current default-value 'val1B' for p1? # Note 'X info parameter' is no option, since after: X parameter {} puts "X parameter = [X info parameter]" X create x3 puts "x3 p1 --> [::x3 p1]" ;# still works. # So the default-values are remembered somewhere! # My guess was somewhere around '::xotcl::Class::Parameter', but I just # could not find, where? - and how to access them? # # Somehow there must be a better way to access the current default-values # then via some newly created dummy object?! # (May be even the "old" default-values 'val1A, val2A' (for ::x1) are still remembered somewhere?) # # regards, # - Florian

Asserts off/on

Have I missed something, or is there no easy way of turning asserts off or on for all objects? It's common that during the development phase you want all the asserts turned on and, perhaps for performance reasons, turn them off when finished. I know it could be possible by overwriting the create method, or whatever, but I was looking for something... well ... less hacky. / http://www.fishpool.com/~setok/

Debugging in Expect with XOTCL

Hi all, I have few questions in debugging of XoTcl with expect/tclsh. 1) How can we do debugging from expect? I am not able to use edprocs in xoTcl. I usually do "edprocs <proc name>" from expect and I will do necessary changes without changing the actual file. Do we have any such option in xoTcl? 2) Also, is there any direct way to print or get the variables defined in a class in expect? As of now, I am creating a simple procedure in the expect under the required class and I am retrieving the values using that procedure by calling them with the corresponding object. 3) In case of TCL, while doing debugging we do some changes in the .tcl file and we just source it in the expect prompt to get the changes. But in case of xoTcl, I am now coming out of expect and again opening a new one and giving a "package require <package name>" to get the updated information.
