XOTcl: Introspection bug (?) and Dynamic Object Aggregation consideration

Hy, In 1 I report an introspection bug, in 2 an ahestetic bug and in 3 a personal consideration about a possible XOTcl improvement. 1. Introspection: "info methods" duplicated entry In the following I report e test case that shows the problem: Class MetaClass1 -superclass Class -parameter {{a "v1"} {b ""}} Class MetaClass2 -superclass MetaClass1 -parameter {{a "v2"} {c ""}} MetaClass1 Class1 MetaClass2 Class2 lsort [Class2 info methods] result: __next a a abstract .... expected: __next a abstract .... Class2 info methods a result:a a expected: a 2. Usage string Object n n info children -class Interface wrong # args: should be {::n info children ?pat?} I expect: wrong # args: should be {::n info children} or there is somethig missing in the language reference documentation? 3. Dynamic Object aggregation improvement issues I think would be useful, especially for performance reasons, that dynamic object aggregation have more introspection functionalities at core language level: for example at the info children command could be added options that returns children filtered by children class (and object names and ... ?) I want to have the opportunity to look into xotcl more in actual use. It has had a lot more large applications built with it, and has been "harder hit" (at least that's my impression). Why? Because it is similar to snit, similarly it is a "Tcl-friendly OO model", but already done in C, even to the point of performance tweaking. People like snit because the model is good, and they can drop it in anywhere because it is pure Tcl. However, a true core OO should be done in C. xotcl is that already. Sure, you can code parts of snit in C - but xotcl is already there *and tested*. It has active developers and interested users. It's even gone so far as to have an alpha "itcl compatability" mode that actually faster than the C coded itcl! So why have I been slow in including it? Well, until v1.2 the build system was not TEA friendly. I strongly believe in extensions that behave as extensions, and it behaved as if xotcl was the world. Also, key to AS work in usage only, the TDK Compiler does not know how to precompile (hide/obfuscate) xotcl methods, so it wouldn't be too hard to go poking in our code (which we don't want ;) ). Please note that this message crosses 3 mailing lists, so be conscious of who is on the to/cc for your replies. Jeff PS - Of course we still love Will's snit, which is why it actually made it into our code, but when we talk "core OO", there are different criteria to go by.

XOTcl parameter command

Hy, Thanks to XOTcl I'm rethinking the OO paradigm and doing metaprogramming easier. 1. Parameter introspection I use the Metaclass concept to model metainfos and use the parameter command to add meta-attributes runtime. As already You pointed out the parameter introspection (className info parameter) mechanism is not correct, so it is needed some parsing, with euristic regexp, to extract the parameters info. Also the command: className info parameter parameterName doesn't work as expected, because it ignores parameterName Have you planned to release in the near future the fix to this problem? 2 Parameter strange behavoir When using Parameter command I have noticed same strange behavoirs, for examples: case 1: Class X -parameter {{-x 100}} ::X case 2: Class X -parameter [list {-x 100}] wrong # args: .... case 1 and 2 are perfectly equivalent, so I think there is same strange parsing inside a C function. Also note that this is true only for "negative" attribute, ie: Class X -parameter [list {x 100}] work as expected. Bug: make install step tries to perform chmod on xowish even if not configured to build [PATCH]

Hi, I got an error when building xotcl without tk and wish support where it tries to do a chmod on xowish (which of course doesn't exist at that point.) This patch will fix the problem (as well as being self-explanitory as to why it should be applied). See attachment for patch; my email client seems to be translating white space, which would render the patch (and the resulting Makefile.in) inoperative. Bug: configure step chooses wrong tclsh [PATCH]

The following patch should solve the problem. One way of applying it: - save it to a file, say "xotch-1.2.0/choose-right-tclsh.diff" - cd xotcl-1.2.0 - cat choose-right-tclsh.diff | patch -p1 Once you have done this, you must run autoconf to regenerate the script "configure". Status of the bugs I reported/could people resend their replies to those bugs

Hi, Last month I reported three bugs in the configure step of the xotcl build process. While I was reporting those bugs and for a few days after, I was working on my mail, and so turned off the list's replying to me at first. Is there a different way to report bugs? Could someone tell me the status of these bugs? Would anyone like copies of the bug reports sent to them? Anyway, I got my mail working, but I discovered a problem in the list as well... During the period I had replies from the list turned off, I expected to see all my bug reports in the archive, but each time I sent the next bug, I checked the archive, and only my last one showed up. To make matters worse, someone else posted to the list in March after I did, and his/her message replaced mine. Could the archive be configured to only accept 5 messages? But if that's the case, the behavior of replacing the last message doesn't make much sense. Could there be a bug in the software? Maybe the HD where the archives are kept is out of space? installation on fedora

Hello, In order to use biok, I have to install xotcl. My problem with xotcl installation is that my system is under Fedora and there is no tclInt.h file under this distribution (even with the tcl-devel package). Of course, I can uninstall the tcl package and install tcl manually but, by uninstalling tcl package, other packages are going out and that put me in trouble ... Any suggestion on the way to manage my tclInt.h problem ? Does anyone have an rpm for fedora ? Thanks in advance Alexandre
