installation on fedora

Hello, In order to use biok, I have to install xotcl. My problem with xotcl installation is that my system is under Fedora and there is no tclInt.h file under this distribution (even with the tcl-devel package). Of course, I can uninstall the tcl package and install tcl manually but, by uninstalling tcl package, other packages are going out and that put me in trouble ... Any suggestion on the way to manage my tclInt.h problem ? Does anyone have an rpm for fedora ? Thanks in advance Alexandre

Hi! New Version of XOTclIDE 0.60 is released. http://www.xdobry.de/xotclIDE changes: - support of version control on ms access driver (per tclodbc). It is able to use MS Officce Access format for version control database. You do not need MS Access on your client, because this driver is standard component of Window. It can be better (but not platform-independent) way to have sigle-user version control on windows than sqlite (that can be pretty slow) - some small changes in version control schema makes old repository not upgrade-compatible. Please apply update sql (update60.sql) if you want to use old repository (per plug-in SQL Browser) - new variable access tracker. You can invoke debugger on write/read access to global variables or XOTcl object variables. Bug: configure step chooses wrong tclsh

Hi, Sorry if this is a repeat, the first time didnt' seem to take. When configuring xotcl to build with a tcl which is not the system tcl, the configure step assumes the tclsh in the $PATH, which is a wrong assumption. The right assumption would be to choose the tclsh located in the tclConfig.sh. Doing this would ensure the builder will get the tclsh which is in the installation of tcl he/she specified. -Jim

Bug: configure step hardwires location of aolserver

Hi, When configuring xotcl in any way whatsoever, if the configure step determines it should build with aolserver extensions, it assumes the only possible place for aolserver is in /usr/local/aolserver, a mistaken assumption for the same reason that it's possible to install cat or grep in any location on the unix installation. The right way to do this is to add a configure.in option which would include a specification of where aolserver is located. Suggestion, this option could be named --with-aolserver=<dir>. Also, there should exist --without-aolserver. -Jim

Hi, When configuring xotcl in any way whatsoever, it checks the $CWD variable to determine if the string "aolserver" is anywhere in it. If so, it assumes mistakenly in many cases that the build should include aolserver extensions. The right way to do this is to add to configure.in a switch that allows the builder to tell the configure step whether or not it should build with aolserver extensions. -Jim

xotcl and itcl ...

I was intrigued by the recent posting about an itcl emulation using xotcl. How much work would it be to get a 100% emulation of itcl in xotcl? After all, there is tcl++, that was a pure Tcl emulation of itcl (that was 99.9% IIRC). Jeff

Hi, I am newer of XOTcl and I am evaluating the language for using it instead of Itcl in the new version of a large OSS Telecommunication sw project ranging from SDH/PDH, ip,atm and application level management. XOTcl builded successfully on HP-UX 11 and SunSolaris 8 and was integrated easily it into a starkit. rivet-- xotcl cgi web

hi- i am looking to start scripting on the web with tcl. i like the looks of the rivet product because i used php before and the xhtml embedded in the page with tags looks familiar. i wonder if i can use xotcl when i script with rivet. i get confused on how one would add an extension. isnt the web host in control of this. i have to wait for rivet to release the windows binaries. while i am waiting i could read my tcl scripting manual. i am a total beginner when it comes to tcl web scripting so any input you can provide is very helpful. i have enjoyed tinkering with the xotcl ide so far. it is feature rich. thanks, marvin

sorry for being fickle. i just cant. now is not a good time to use tcl on the web for me. maybe in the distant future. i still really like tcl for non - web related things. thanks anyways. dont open any attachments from me. i am investigating a virus . i didnt (knowingly) attach that file that got sent to the group. later marvin
