Dear all,
today, I bought a Zoom license for this course to get full control over its configuration, which I
have been testing for the past couple of hours.
The course will be recorded in a way that allows to separate the presenter, the shared screen, and
the transcriptions. The AI support is really impressive as there is a live closed caption available
as well as a full transcription of the recorded presentation. After a presentation is recorded, it
will take up to the recording time to post-process the recording, such that it becomes possible to
share the recording via Zoom in a way that allows the display of the closed caption and/or the full
(searchable) transcription.
Once I can share the post-processed recording, it should allow you to recap/review the presentation
in case something is unclear, or you missed a portion for whatever reason.
All the storage and processing is configured to be done in Europe such that privacy is really
protected at the highest level. This also has the consequence that each time you enroll in the Zoom
session, you will be made aware of the recording taking place; please see the screenshots of these
dialog popup windows at the end.
Here is the link to all installments of this course, starting on Monday, August 5^th , from
9:00-13:00 Vienna/Austria/Europe:

Hi there,
welcome to the summer course for learning programming in only three weeks! J
As you know it will start on Monday, August 5^th , and end on Friday, August 23^rd , 2024. As it
will take place in Vienna, situated in Austria, Europe, please check your time zone to translate the
lecturing hours (9:00 through 13:00/9:00 am through 1:00 pm) to your time zone.
Because of Austria, August 15^th will be a holiday, and for that reason, there will be no
installment on that day (yes, a free day! ;) ).
As this course is intentionally offered during the summer vacation, there are not many attendees,
but ten people, which is very fine! There will be attendees from outside the WU, even from other
continents, thanks to using Zoom as the digital medium and the interest in this course!
At the first installment on Monday, August 5^th , we start with a personal introduction, the
background, and the motivation for attending and committing to the three weeks that the course
lasts. We will build groups of two persons who will be asked to cooperate and work together on the
homework assignments. This way, no one is alone, and from experience, people help each other very
well. For this to work out, it is necessary to learn about the time zone the external participants
are living in such that the group building can take this into account.
As there are only ten people, it would be possible to allow family or friends to attend, such that
the group building would be even easier in the case of time zones. If so, then please send me an
e-mail to that effect, nominating the person and the e-mail address.
One more piece of information: currently, there are two different mailman e-mail lists for this
course, the original one for the WU participants and one for the external attendees. It may make
sense to have everyone on a single e-mail list for course-related questions. Therefore, I am
contemplating adding the external attendees to the WU participant mailing list as well. If so,
please do not be surprised if you get another e-mail about the course, this time with a slightly
different e-mail address.
Tomorrow I will be leaving for a conference in Germany and returning to Vienna by August 3^rd .
Therefore, the setting up of Zoom will take place either on Saturday (3rd) or Sunday (4th), such
that I will be only able to send you the Zoom admission data via e-mail by then. So please check
your e-mail on Saturday, August 3^rd , or on Sunday, August 4^th .
In the meantime, I hope you have relaxing days until the course starts! J
I am looking forward to meeting you all digitally!
Best regards
---rony
