Dear colleagues,
We are delighted to invite you to Harshvardhan J. Pandit’s talk on “(Re-)Inventing the Wheel: Privacy Risks of Technologies”.
Harsh(vardhan) is an Irish Research Council funded Research Fellow working on exploration of privacy risks regarding technologies. He has a PhD in Computer Science based on research exploring semantic modelling of personal data and consent for GDPR. He also serves as the co-chair of W3C community groups regarding Data Privacy Vocabularies and Controls (DPVCG) and CONSENT. When not doing that, he likes to read science fiction, physics, philosophy, and mycology.
Abstract: We are poised on a technological revolution where agency and automation are increasingly ubiquitous and pervasive. From AI to devices to web browsers, the ‘human’ is no longer in direct control. In such cases, by exploring risks these technologies pose to Privacy from scratch is like re-inventing the wheel. In this talk, I outline a perspective on how different disciplines can pool their knowledge together to build a social framework that enables us to make an informed progress technologically whilst being conscious of how it impacts us in terms of privacy.
