I promised to review this section with the challenges. I had the idea to not talk about the lack of things as the absence of something is always hard to prove. This is why I did not try to "save" your paragraph, but rather rewrite it. I tried to keep as much of the content as possible as long as it remained compatible.

With the rewrite, I explained the evolution of the projects so far, how they relate, and which challenges we are attacking this time. In turn, I did transform your "lacking things" into "challenges" and I'm satisfied with the result as it smoothly re-joins your later writing about what the project will provide.
