This special issue welcomes contributions to an area in the IS field that has brought among its most cited, and most interesting and insightful studies. EJIS offers an opportunity for current and new thinkers to analyze existing dilemmas, introduce new ideas, uncover hidden assumptions, shape future directions. The relevance of philosophy in IS is well-known and this Special Issue seeks to not only raise the level of philosophical discourse, but also connect directly to the demands and concerns of both the IS field and of society as a whole.
