The Third International Workshop on Collaborative and Learning Applications of Grid Technology (CLAG 2006) (CLAG 2006 web page available at http://gsic.tel.uva.es/clag/clag2006.html)
To be held in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid (CCGrid 2006) (CCGrid 2006 web page available at http://pdcc.ntu.edu.sg/ccgrid2006/)
May 16-19, 2006, Singapore
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Short Description of the Field:
Education is emerging as a very important application field of grid technologies. In this sense, the grid enables access to large amounts of heterogeneous software and hardware resources that can be employed for educational purposes. Besides, typical grid-based applications such as remote laboratories or 3D virtual environments can also be employed within an educational context. Grid technology can thus provide significant benefits for education at different levels: K-12, high school, university, skill training and learning for life. Furthermore, there is a growing interest in developing tools and applications in order to support collaboration between users within a grid context. Grid-based collaboratories are a good example of these applications.
Interestingly, Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) is one of the major research fields in technology-enabled education that has grown out of wider research into e-learning and collaborative computing. CSCL applications can thus also benefit from grid computing by leveraging current research efforts focusing on the use of the grid for education and collaboration.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scope:
This workshop focuses on the use of grid technologies for education or/and collaboration in general and for collaborative learning in particular. For this reason, CLAG 2006 aims at bringing together educators and researchers in grid computing, e-learning, collaborative computing, and CSCL to present their latest work integrating these fields.
We are soliciting high quality papers reporting original work on a broad range of topics, including, but not limited to:
* Advanced learning environments based on grid technology * Grid-based virtual laboratories for e-learning * Use of existing grid-based applications within an educational context * New learning scenarios supported by grid technologies * Experiences on the use of grid technologies to support learning scenarios in K-12, high school, University, skill training and life learning * Grid-based collaborative applications * Grid middleware for collaboration * Service-oriented development of applications for e-learning or/and collaboration * QoS in grid-based applications for e-learning or/and collaboration * Grid service orchestration for e-learning or/and collaboration * Semantic grid for e-learning or/and collaboration * Grid-based agents for e-learning or/and collaboration * P2P grids for e-learning or/and collaboration * Grid-based CSCL applications

Paper Submissions:
CLAG 2006 invites authors to submit original and unpublished work. CLAG 2006 also encourages the submission of outstanding "work-in-progress" papers. Authors are invited to submit papers of not more than 8 pages of double column text using single spaced 10 point size type on 8.5 x 11 inch pages, as per IEEE 8.5 x 11 manuscript guidelines, see http://www.computer.org/cspress/instruct.htm. Authors should submit a PostScript (level 2) or PDF file that will print on a PostScript printer. Electronic submission by email is strongly encouraged. Hard copies should be sent only if electronic submission is not possible. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper. Please email your papers to clag@ulises.tel.uva.es which is the preferred method for submission. Put "CLAG 2006 submission" in the subject of the email.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Proceedings:
All papers selected for this workshop are peer-reviewed and will be published as a part of the CCGrid 2006 Proceedings. It is expected that the proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press, USA.
