Call for Papers
The International Conference on Conceptual Modeling is the leading international forum for presenting and discussing current research on conceptual modeling. The topics of interest span the entire spectrum of conceptual modeling including research and practice in areas such as: theories of concepts underlying conceptual modeling, methods and tools for developing and communicating conceptual models, techniques for transforming conceptual models into effective implementations, and the impact of conceptual modeling techniques on databases, business strategies and information systems development.
Topics of Interest
We solicit submission of original research, as well as experience and vision papers, from both researchers and practitioners, welcoming any topic where conceptual modeling is a major theme.
We specifically encourage submissions on the application and role of conceptual modeling techniques in new and emerging areas such as large data repositories for business intelligence, cloud computing and NoSQL databases.
Specific examples of topics of interest include, but are not limited to, conceptual modeling as applied to:
*
Foundations and Concept Formalization
*
Big Data
*
NoSQL Databases and Enterprise Business Models
*
Semantic Web, Cloud Computing, and Web Information Systems

*
Paper notification: 5 May 2015
*
Camera-ready paper submission: 1 June 2015
*
Author registration: 15 June 2015
Submission Guidelines
Since the proceedings will be published by Springer in the LNCS series, authors must submit manuscripts using the LNCS style. See http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html for style files and details. The page limit for submitted papers (as well as for final, camera-ready papers) is 14. Manuscripts not submitted in the LNCS style or exceeding the page limit will not be reviewed and automatically rejected.
A paper submitted to ER 2015 may not be under review for any other conference or journal during the time it is being considered for ER 2015. Submitted papers must demonstrate to be aware of the state-of-the art literature in conceptual modeling by properly citing relevant papers in the field.
Submission Instructions
Submission to ER 2015 will be electronically managed via EasyChair.
Authors are asked to submit an abstract first, and then to upload the full paper.
The submission page of ER 2015 can be found at http://er2015.dsv.su.se/call-for-papers/
ER 2015 Awards and Special Issue
Springer Verlag will sponsor two awards:
*
Best Student Paper Award: to be given to the best paper whose first author is a student.
*
Best Paper Award: to be given to the best paper presented at the conference.
Selected papers may be invited to submit their extended version of their papers to a DKE special issue.
Program Chairs
*
Mong Li Lee, National University of Singapore, Singapore

The ER 2015 PhD Symposium is held in conjunction with the ER 2015 conference with a deadline three weeks later than that of the main conference.
Call for PhD Symposium
The ER 2015 PhD Symposium is one of the leading opportunities for PhD students conducting research in the area of conceptual modeling to present and critically reflect on their research directions, plans and activities. The Symposium will bring together PhD students with international mentors who are researchers from the ER community. The symposium will offer PhD students the opportunity to present, discuss, and receive feedback on their research in a constructive and collegial atmosphere. Prominent researchers in the field of conceptual modeling will attend the symposium and mentor the participant students. The symposium is co-located with the ER 2015 conference and will take place during the ER Conference (likely a half-day event). The symposium language is English.
The symposium is designed to provide PhD students with feedback on their plan for their research. An ideal participant in the symposium is a PhD student who has settled on a specific research proposal, investigated the state-of-the-art in the field, identified his or her approach and expected contributions, and has preliminary results. Thus, PhD Symposium participants should be at least one year into their program but have enough time remaining before submitting their dissertation so that they can benefit from the feedback that they receive at the symposium. The technical scope of the PhD Symposium is the same as that of ER 2015.
Important Dates
*
Proposals: April 5th, 2015
*
Notification: May 5th, 2015
*
Author registration: June 15th, 2015
Submission Guidelines
Students who would like to participate in the PhD Symposium must submit a short paper describing their doctoral work. The short paper should not exceed 10 pages in the LNCS conference proceedings style and must cover the following aspects:
1.
A clear formulation and motivation of the research topic;
2.
An outline of the significant problems in the field and the current status of solutions;
3.
A description of the proposed approach, including initial results and expected contributions;
4.
A summary of the (proposed) evaluation method and limitations.
The short paper must be submitted via EasyChair. All submissions will be acknowledged.
Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, technical merit, presentation quality and relevance to the ER Conference. Each paper will be reviewed by at least two members of the symposium program committee (one PhD Symposium Chair plus at least one additional mentor).
By submitting a contribution, students agree to register for the conference and attend the symposium. Failure to register or to attend will result in the removal of the submission, even if it had been formally accepted.

PhD Symposium Mentors
The reviewers and the mentors for the PhD symposium will be leading researchers in the field of conceptual modeling. Each PhD student will work closely with one mentor who will be selected based on the topics addressed in the students submitted short paper.
