Call for papers for the Special Session on
"Multimedia Information Retrieval"
to be organized at IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI 2010)
July 18-23, 2010 Barcelona, Spain

=========================================================== Scope ===========================================================
Nowadays, a large and continuously growing amount of multimedia information is available in databases and in the web. Therefore, it is crucial for multimedia search engines to overcome (1) users' difficulty in specifying their information requirements, (2) the problem of extracting relevant (semantic) features from the multimedia objects, and (3) the difficulties of accurate matching and relevance feedback. We believe that Computational Intelligence with its large panel of techniques provides tools of predilection for addressing such an inherently complex challenge.
The special session will provide a forum for exchanging ideas between original theoretical research contributions and effective system design and implementation. The target audience is university researchers, scientists, industry professionals, software engineers and graduate students who need to become acquainted with (or share) new theories and technologies in computational intelligence and multimedia information retrieval.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to * Image, video and audio descriptors for multimedia information retrieval (MIR) * Content-based multimedia analysis * Semantic content analysis for multimedia * Theoretical foundations of multimedia retrieval * Multimedia data modelling, indexing and structure extraction * Contextual metadata extraction * Automatic and semi-automatic semantic media annotation * Relevance feedback in multimedia information retrieval systems * Multimedia interaction and dialogue management * User and preference modelling * Query languages for multimedia information retrieval * Classification and semantic-based content structuring for multimedia information retrieval * Semantic Web technologies in multimedia information retrieval * Multimedia and multi-modal mining * Multimedia ontologies for specific application domains * Web based systems for multimedia information retrieval * Context-aware multi-modal fusion systems * Social networks and collaborative filtering for multimedia information retrieval * Multimodal (fusion) techniques for multimedia information retrieval * Multimedia retrieval systems
