Journal of Management in Medicine (JMM)
Special Issue: Health Informatics **********************************
CALL FOR PAPERS
The adoption of computer based Information Systems (IS) offers many healthcare organisations the ability to cope with the overwhelming demand for healthcare services and deals with a number of strategic and tactical issues. This technology is increasingly used in a wide variety of forms; such as supporting managerial decisions making, monitoring patients' progress, and enhancing clinical practices. However, the introduction and use of such technologies may have also its drawbacks, such as ethical issues and the costs of re-engineering and lack of understanding, those being tangible or intangible. Political and cultural issues may also be affected by such technology.
Papers sought for this special issue of the Journal of Management in Medicine focusing on health informatics which is mainly concerned with using information to manage healthcare processes, on the other hand, how the introduction and use of complex information systems may affect the traditional management process of health organisation. The main objective of this issue is to raise and stimulate debate regarding the critical issues surrounding healthcare and the new age of IS and IT. Papers should provide original theoretical underpinnings and rigorous empirical studies to support their arguments based on either qualitative or quantitative research.
