The Information Systems Journal (Impact factor: 4.188) is inviting submissions that advance our understanding of Digital Platforms and Ecosystems from two particular perspectives. The first is one that views digital platforms as ecosystems, where a deeper understanding of the ecosystem metaphor (when applied to platform-based business models) may help to answer many of the key questions that are yet to be addressed within the domain. The second is one that views digital platforms and ecosystems as conceptually distinct, where greater clarity on the delineation between the two concepts may give rise to more sophisticated and nuanced theories.
The CFP is now available at https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/pb-assets/assets/13652575/ISJ_Digital%20Plat... For the special issue, we welcome research from all theoretical perspectives, employing all research methods, and at all levels-of-analysis. Examples of topics that would be appropriate include, but are not limited to, the following: • The antecedents, nature, and consequences of platformization for traditional firms • Ecosystem management and development for digital platforms • The design of the underlying technical infrastructure of digital platforms and ecosystems • Governance and regulation of digital platforms and ecosystems • The coordination and management of platform/ecosystem entities • The dynamics and inherent tensions of coopetition within digital platforms and ecosystems • The economic, social, and environmental implications of digital platforms and ecosystems • Value co-creation and joint innovations within a digital platform or ecosystem • Dynamics of interactions and relationships between platforms and their participating entities • Novel research approaches for studying digital platforms and ecosystems • The attainment and sustenance of critical mass, and the management of network effects • The influence of novel technologies in the formation and development of digital platforms and ecosystems
Authors are welcome to submit an extended abstract for initial feedback up to two months before the formal submission deadline. The formal submission deadline is June 30, 2021 and will not be extended. All manuscript submissions will go through an initial round of screening by the special issue editorial board to ensure that they fit the objectives of the special issue and the Information Systems Journal, and can be reasonably improved during the stipulated time frame. For formatting criteria, authors should refer to the Information Systems Journal website (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal/13652575/homepage/ForAuthors.ht...). Manuscripts that pass initial screening will go through the Information Systems Journal review process. It is expected that a manuscript will go through a maximum of three rounds of revision.
