They further support : composition of modules into whole systems. At the same time many systems : have properties that do not necessarily align with the functional : components and cannot be localized to modular units. Example properties : include performance optimizations, failure handling, synchronization, : coordination and scheduling policies. Aspects are defined as properties : that cut across groups of functional components. While these aspects can : be thought about and analyzed relatively separately from the basic : functionality, at the implementation level they must be combined together. : Programming them manually into the system's functionality using current : component-oriented languages results in aspects being spread throughout : the code. This code tangling makes the source code difficult to develop, : understand and evolve by destroying modularity and reducing software : quality. : : Aspect-Orientation is a paradigm proposal that addresses the above issues. : Current proposals on existing techniques such as reflection, : superimposition, multi-dimensional separation of concerns, use of aspect : definition languages and automatic weavers are invited. : : Format and Length of Contribution : ---------------------------------- : : Maximum of 10 pages in length in any of the following formats: PDF, : PostScript, or MS-Word to be sent via email to concur@charlie.cns.iit.edu. : : Organizers : ---------- : : Dr. Tzilla Elrad : Research Associate Professor : Department of Computer Science : Illinois Institute of Technology : email: elrad@charlie.cns.iit.edu : : Dr. Atef Bader : Department of Computer Science : Illinois Institute of Technology : email: bader@delta.csam.iit.edu : : Constantinos Constantinides : Department of Computer Science : Illinois Institute of Technology : email: conscon@charlie.cns.iit.edu : : Important Dates : --------------- : : Deadline for paper submission: March 1, 2000 : Acceptance Notification: April 1, 2000 : : More information : ---------------- : : More information on the PDPTA 2000 conference can be found at : http://www.cps.udayton.edu/~pan/pdpta
