INTRODUCTION eHealth is a relatively new term describing a broad series of information and communication technologies within the healthcare sector. From the physician to hospital management, the primary goal of eHealth solutions is to increase the availability and timeliness of information in order to improve the quality and consistency of care. Guided and governed by legislation such as HIPAA, health care agencies must be active in the areas of patient information security and privacy in order to achieve legislative and regulatory compliance. In addition, administrative security policies and procedures must be in place to address the way health care agencies handle their information, whether organizationally or patient related.
OBJECTIVE OF THE SPECIAL ISSUE In the area of Health Care Information Systems there is a need for an edited collection of academic research articles related to the ehealth. This special issue aims to provide timely information in relationship to organizations, patients, business processes, and other ehealth topics. The special issue also encourages novel solutions that improve the accuracy, security and privacy of ehealth care data. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) privacy or security issue related to the following: � Global Markets for EMR (Electronic Medical Records) Technology � Wireless eHealth Platforms � Reaching Doctors and Patients Through New Digital Media � Healthcare Technology Opportunities in the Electronic Health Record Market � Global Spending on Electronic Health Records � Leveraging Existing Technologies for Electronic Health Records (Technology Focus) � Healthcare Technology Telehealth's Increasing Role In Healthcare (Executive Presentation) � In Search Of Better Technologies For Telehealth (Technology Focus) � Moving Towards the Integration of Telehealth into Healthcare (Strategy Focus) � Virtual Reality Applications in Healthcare � RFID Opportunities in relation to ehealth � Eprescribing � Emerging eHealth Technologies � Mobile And Wireless Services For Outpatients � Privacy and Security of ehealth data � Ehealth Legislation and regulatory related compliance
SUBMISSION PROCEDURES: Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit full papers electronically (Word document) to Dawn Medlin at dmedlin@appstate.edu by August 1, 2009. Inquiries may also be made to this address. Review Process: All manuscripts will be peer and blind reviewed by at least three reviewers. Paper Requirements: All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. Manuscripts must follow APA style guidelines for reference citations. Length of paper should be approximately 20-25 pages.
