CALL FOR PAPERS
European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS) http://www.palgrave-journals.com/ejis/
Special Issue on Transformational Government (t-Gov)
Technology integration and management in Government is a burgeoning area of research that explores the use of ICT in public administration, combined with organizational change, new skills to improve public services, and the democratic processes. The phenomenon of Transformational Government (t-Gov) is maturing, with significant research breadth and depth these domains require integrating together thus, representing a unique multidisciplinary research challenge. Governments around the world have made much progress in developing their eGovernment infrastructures but there is now widespread belief that capitalizing on such investments is more challenging that originally envisaged and hence, the emergence of Transformational Government, which is all about transforming public services as citizens receive them and demonstrating how technology can improve the corporate services of Government such that more resources can be released to deliver frontline services. Much Government spending throughout the world has been directed towards developmental projects, with an established need having now been identified to reflect and build upon emerging public sector issues. Transformational Government research requires a high quality publishing outlet, clearly targeted at researchers with an interest in this fast moving area of applied research. Transformational Government is a burgeoning phenomenon across the globe, with substantial investment being made to support improvements to infrastructures as well as services to the citizen. Many emerging challenges facing t-Gov are around political, managerial and cultural environmental issues, which are considered unique to the public sector. It is in exploring this area where this special issue of the European Journal of Information Systems seeks to make a contribution to the normative literature.
The main objective of the special issue is to discuss past, present and future challenges associated with t-Gov. Reflective analysis of successful or failed exploitations are sought from across the world, where key learning issues can be extrapolated for others to use as a frame of reference. Studies offering a wider project focus from a human, organizational or technical perspective are particularly encouraged. In particular, methodological approaches that adopt exploratory, theory building or testing through case analysis or surveys are welcome.
