Subject: CFP on "Advanced IT for DMSS" (Deadline extended) Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 09:53:13 -0800 From: Manuel Mora mmorauaamx@visto.com To: ISWORLD@LISTSERV.HEANET.IE
Dear colleagues interested in the topic of Decision-Making:
We have extended the deadlines to receive 4-page abstracts and to receive the full papers for the CFP presented below. This extension will enable us to gather more papers and eventually to offer our academic community higher quality material for this special issue.
We believe that research in advanced IT has many Computer Sciences based forums, but we also believe there are possible forums in which Information Systems, Operations Research, Management Science and Systems Approach can be shared. For this reason, we invite submissions from these different approaches to this CFP. In particular, we encourage studies that present scientific evidence demonstrating how advanced IT is, or can be, used to enhance the Decision Making process.
Thanks for your interest in the CFP presented below, and apologizes for multiple postings. Sincerely.
G. Forgionne, Information Systems Department, UMBC J. Gupta, Department of Management, BSU M. Mora, Dept. of Information Systems, UAA Co-editors.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Issue on: "Advanced Information Technology for Decision Making Support Systems (DMSS)" Journal : Journal of Decision Systems Site Journal : http://www.editions-hermes.fr/rev_accueil.asp?id=6 Publication date: Late 2002 Editors : G. Forgionne, (lead editor), UMBC, forgionn@umbc.edu J. Gupta, co-editor, BSU, jgupta@bsu.edu M. Mora, co-editor, UAA, mmorauaamx@visto.com email of editor team: editors.dmss.jds@visto.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT DATES: December, 15, 2001 :Deadline for 4-page abstract submission. February 28, 2002 : Deadline for full paper submission. March 31, 2002 : Review process due. April 15, 2002 : Notification of acceptance/rejection. June 30, 2002 : Camera-ready version due. Publication date : Late 2002. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- THEME JUSTIFICATION:
IS/IT field has a rich set of research streams. One of these, Decision Making Support Systems (DMSS), it has focused in doing research about how IS/IT can be deployed to support all the phases of decision making process. Despite this field has around 30 years old, new research threads have emerged in the last years.
This issue addresses the state of the art of DMSS because these require a variety of advanced IS/IT to enhance the design, development, utilization, and evaluation processes. These advanced IT's include, among many others: machine learning, fuzzy logic, virtual reality, genetic algorithms, case-based reasoning, intelligent agents, logic programming, data mining, neural networks, knowledge-based simulation and human computer interfaces. Therefore, we are developing a Special Issue of the Journal of Decision Systems with articles devoted to the following main research questions:
(a) how can advanced IT enhance DMSS ?; (b) how can advanced IT affect the process of DMSS design, implementation and evaluation?; and (c) how can advanced IT be integrated in DMSS to modify organizational structures and management practice? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ISSUE MISSION AND AIMS:
This Special Issue's mission is to present state of the art on applied DMSS integrating new IT. The main aims of this special issue are:
(1) to generate a compendium of quality applied papers on advanced IT in DMSS, (2) to help diffuse scarce knowledge about effective methods and strategies for successfully designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating DMSS that integrate advanced IT, and (3) to create an awareness among academicians and practitioners about the relevance of DMSS in the current complex and dynamic management environment. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TOPICS SOUGHT:
Papers are solicited that contribute in these aims. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
(1) Cases of DMSS that integrate advanced IT in business, commerce (including e-commerce), government, health care, banking, military, manufacturing, etc. (2) Strategies that promote the design, development, and implementation of successful DMSS that integrate advanced IT, (3) Methodologies for integrating advanced IT in data, knowledge, model, dialog, and feedback management , (4) Studies that compare the effectiveness of advanced IT in DMSS versus other traditional IT, and (5) Studies related with the effects of DMSS that integrate advanced IT, on organizational structure and management practice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTRUCTIONS:
The suggested length for each manuscript will 20-25 double-spaced typed pages, including graphs, tables, figures, and references. Original papers should be written to conform with the Journal of Decision Systems style guidelines document, which is available upon request. Papers will be evaluated using a double blind peer-review process. A 4-page abstract is requested before or on December 15, 2001. Please send all submissions electronically to: forgionn@umbc.edu with copy to editors.dmss.jds@visto.com -----------------------------------------------------------------------
