*CALL FOR PAPERS*
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012
*Track:*IS in Healthcare
*Miniâ??track title:*Adoption and Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Record (EHR) Technology
*Description*
Through regulatory mandate and/or financial incentives, most developed countries are driving the implementation of some types of healthcare information technologies that capture, maintain, and exchange the healthcare records electronically. In U.S. for example, the Health Information Technology (HIT) program of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) has been defined to modernize the health care system by promoting and expanding the adoption of health information technology by 2014. This program calls for up to four years of Medicare incentive payments to hospitals who meet the requirements of â??meaningful useâ?? of â??certified electronic healthcare record (EHR) technologyâ??.
Past experiences in enterprise information system implementations, however, have usually delivered less than their promise, and at more cost than anticipated. Yet the need for success in EHR implementations is greater given our demographic trends and an increasingly expensive system. Accordingly, this mini-track track seeks to promote and encourage the use of proven industry technologies and knowledge in healthcare settings. Here, the learning cycle can be reduced and the bridge across the digital divide mended. The track welcomes both conceptual and empirical research on adoption and meaningful use of HER either at the individual, group, or organizational level.
*Suggested Topics*
This track will provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to submit original studies on the following subjects and on other appropriately connected topics:
