The European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN), in tight cooperation with Centre national d'enseignement a distance (CNED) and the European Experts' Network for Education and Technology (EENet) is organising the Fifth Open Classroom Conference on 5-7 October 2005 in Poitiers, France. The conference bears the title: Teachers' Professional Development, addressing eLearning, Innovation & Quality in Schooling, focusing on the ever-increasing needs of teachers, that are imposed by the emerging e-learning paradigms, the search for new, more effective school structures and the broader challenges that societies are facing in their way towards what has been identified as the Knowledge Economy.
Submissions are invited in the themes of
- Quality reference frameworks, competences, standards & learning achievements; - New professions and job profiles for the school system in the 21st century; - School efficiency and (e-)learning equity - Building a European Repository of local, regional, national & international innovative (& e-learning) cases of teachers training and professional development.
The paper submission deadline is 11 July 2005.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Conference invites teachers, experts and the academia, policy makers, school authorities, ICT solutions providers, publishers and social entrepreneurs to join the dialogue, which will be facilitated with plenary speeches and paper presentations, project work and especially arranged Workshops, during two and a half days.
The conference language is English. The plenary sessions will be bilingual, English and French, with simultaneous translation. Few special sessions addressing themes of French national or regional importance may be organised in French.
Paper submission Papers (not exceeding six A4 pages) and project presentations (up to four pages), including figures and references, should be submitted in English by 11 July, 2005 as MS Word doc files, through the online submission form available on the conference website.
Those who wish to submit paper but face difficulties because of the summer holidays, are kindly requested to contact the EDEN Secretariat for extension of the deadline.
HOW TO JOIN?
Registration will open soon. The EDEN Secretariat is taking care of the registration for the Fifth Open Classroom Conference. To register, please use the Registration Form, available at the conference website. The registration deadline is 30 September, 2005.
The registration fee includes all conference facilities, the Welcome Reception on the evening of 6 October, lunches and coffees on 6-7 October. There is a reduced registration rate before 5 September 2005. The EDEN member early registration fee is EUR 300, while that of non-members is EUR 375. After 5 September the fee for members is EUR 375 and for non-members EUR 450.
Public educational sector delegates from France may be eligible for discounted fees.
