INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TOURISM - CALL FOR PAPERS - SPECIAL ISSUE
The Journal of Information Technology and Tourism is pleased to announce a special issue on MOBILE APPLICATIONS, AMBIENT INTELLIGENCE and SYSTEM INTEGRATION THE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR TOURISM AND TRAVEL
Guest Editors: Professor Andrew J Frew, Mr Francesco Nachira
The special issue seeks to build upon the issues arising from the agenda set through the Mobile Technologies workshop organised in Innsbruck 25th/26th January 2001 under the auspices of IFITT and aims to explore the contribution of Information Society Technologies (IST) in particular mobile access to the domain of tourism and travel. Ambient intelligence is a shorthand description for many of the converging technologies and may be considered to be founded upon the principles of ubiquitous computing, communications and intelligent user-friendly interfaces. The term ambient intelligence also implies a 'seamless environment of computing and advanced networking technology that is aware of human presence and may engage in intelligent dialogue'. Some of these technologies are of course here today but not as yet applied and diffused, some just around the corner. It also implies advances in system integration aspects: architecture, semantic, business. This issue therefore invites researchers in fields impingent on these to submit papers and a wide interpretation of the remit is anticipated.
Papers are invited that address -- but are not limited to -- the following baseline technologies and related topics:
* Universal access * Wireless communication devices and issues * Interoperability of communications networks * HMI and Usability * Location-based intelligent systems * User Profiling and Recommendation systems * Speech and pattern recognition * Intelligent agents, avatars and middleware * Architecture for distributed seamless networking * Ontology and semantics for interoperability * Knowledge management and sharing systems * Social Learning
Authors are invited to develop their papers according to the ITT guidelines (http://sek2.wu-wien.ac.at/itut/subm.htm)%C2%A0 and should submit them to Professor Andrew J Frew (afrew@qmuc.ac.uk ) by the following deadlines:
Timetable and strict deadlines Paper submission 26th April 2002 Referee process for short listed papers 26th April - 31st May 2002 Final deadline for accepted papers 14th June 2002
An early indication of potential interest and tentative title would be greatly appreciated.
For more information on the Journal or about IFITT please go to http://www.ifitt.org Note that there will shortly be a call for papers for the 10th International Congress on Information and Communication Technologies in Tourism, ENTER 2003, which is organised by IFITT. It is acceptable for shorter papers submitted under this call to be more fully worked-up for the journal.
