Communication networks and distributed system technologies are undergoing rapid advancements. The last few years have experienced a steep growth in research on different aspects in these areas. Even though these areas hold great promises for our future, there are several challenges that need to be addressed. This handbook aims to provide a comprehensive guide on emerging and matured ideas and results on different topics in communication networks and distributed systems. It will be a valuable reference for students, instructors, researchers, engineers and strategists in this field. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Network and Information Security Network Architecture Mobile Ad Hoc, Sensor and Mesh Networks Mobile Computing Network Protocol Design and Analysis Protocol Verification and Validation Network Testing Network Management Reliability and Fault Tolerance Multimedia Networking Quality of Service Routing and Traffic Engineering Web Services Network Programming Grid Computing Cluster Computing Real-Time and Embedded Systems Internet Computing

Submission Details:
High quality contributions ideally between 7,500 to 12,500 words that are not yet published or that are not currently under review are sought. Chapters on both emerging and matured topics are acceptable. The editors intend to integrate all the chapters in the book in a manner which can render it as a supplementary reference book or a textbook for use in courses on networks and distributed systems. Therefore, while all types of contributions will be considered for review, good survey and tutorial style manuscripts on a particular topic within the scope of communication networks and distributed systems will be of particular interest. The chapters submitted should be written in a manner that will help it for use for classroom instructional purposes, in addition to their use by researchers and industry professionals. Prospective authors are requested to initially submit as soon as possible (and latest by September 30, 2007), the title and a short abstract of 100-150 words describing the chapter they intend to submit for review. Full manuscripts are due by November 30, 2007. Only MS Word format submissions will be considered. Each manuscript should compulsorily contain the following sections (with exact headings) among others of choice of the authors: introduction, background, thoughts for practitioners, directions for future research, conclusions and references. Also, at the end of the chapter, a list of 10 terminologies/keywords and their definitions, and a set of 10 questions and their sample answers/solutions that would help the potential readers of the chapter to test their understanding of the concepts should also be provided. Later on authors of selected chapters might also be requested to provide 25-30 PowerPoint slides on their chapter that can be used for teaching in the classrooms. Submission of an interest for contribution of a chapter would imply the readiness of the author(s) to submit the full manuscript by the due date and to publish the chapter in the book, if selected. Upon acceptance of the manuscript, the corresponding author will be sent guidelines for preparing the camera-ready copy of the chapter. Authors of accepted chapters would also be required to sign an agreement of copyright transfer and an originality statement for the publisher. Note: Authors of submitted papers might be contacted to personally review or get reviewed at least two chapters submitted for consideration in this book. The authors would be expected to help in reviewing.
Important Dates:
Preliminary Abstract Due: As soon as possible and latest by September 30, 2007. (Please submit the preliminary abstract only if you are completely sure that you would be submitting the full manuscript !!!) Full Manuscript Due: November 30, 2007 First Acceptance Notification: February 29, 2008 Revised Manuscripts Due: March 31, 2008 Final Acceptance Notification: April 30, 2008 Final Manuscript Due: May 31, 2008 Publication Date: End of 2008 (tentative)
