Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like to take the opportunity to inform you that the paper submission deadline forthe Fourth International Symposium on TOOLS AND METHODS OF COMPETITIVE ENGINEERING (TMCE 2002), to be held in Wuhan, China, April 22 - 26, 2002, has been changed.

NEW SUBMISSION DEADLINES:

Submission of full-length papers: September 30, 2001 Notification of acceptance of papers: November 30, 2001 Deadline for camera-ready papers: January 15, 2002 Proceedings available: April 15, 2002

The Program Committee has received a large number of papers from all round the world. At the same time, several (potential) authors asked for prolongation of the submission period for the reason of summer and the holidays which have not favored to paper writing. The Program Committee decided to modify the deadlines based on these request.

we hope that this extension makes it possible for everybody who is interested to complete and submit paper(s). However. in order to be able to go on with organization of the peer review process and designing of the sessions, the Organizing Committee would be pleased to have the title of the planned paper(s) and the name of the authors together with an abstract of the paper(s) from all who intend to contribute as early as possible at all.

Prospective authors are encouraged to submit original papers related to issues such as:

Adoption of competitive engineering theories and methods in industry Application of advanced tools and techniques for CE, AM, GM, RP, PCM, VR, VE, etc. Computer network supported cooperative work in product development Knowledge-intensive product and process design for competitive engineering Advanced manufacturing and servicing technologies for virtual enterprises Global product definition strategies and methodologies Knowledge acquisition, mining, representation and reasoning methods and technologies in engineering Knowledge handling, transfer and sharing world-wide and local Knowledge-intensive, sustainable, convertible and upgradable products Knowledge-oriented training and education

PREPARATION OF TECHNICAL PAPERS

The paper(s) submitted for review are supposed to deal with one of the topics listed on the registration slip of this Circular, or with an emerging topic of knowledge-intensive competitive engineering. The expected maximal length of the full papers is 10-14 (even number of) pages (in 11 points Times New Roman). Shorter papers will therefore be considered only if the topic is otherwise fully explained. Longer papers have to encounter excess page fee.

FORMATTING OF TECHNICAL PAPERS

Please refer to the Guide for TMCE Authors, which can be easily downloaded from the TMCE 2002 web-site. Whichever desk top publishing system you use, format your paper according to the template and submit it either as a Microsoft .DOC or as an Adobe PDF file. Following the peer review of the submitted papers, the formatting instructions will be sent to all authors whose papers will be accepted for publication in the Proceedings of the TMCE 2002 Symposium.

REVIEW OF TECHNICAL PAPERS

Only papers not previously published will be accepted for reviewing by three members of the International Paper Review Panel. The members of the Program Committee will make the final decision about the inclusion in the Program and the Proceedings. The referees' comments will be sent to the first author, or the indicated corresponding author. No paper will be included in the Proceedings without registration for and oral presentation at the Symposium.
