EDEN - European Distance and E-Learning Network Annual Conference 2005, 20-23 June Helsinki University of Technology, Lifelong Learning Institute Dipoli
INVITATION TO A CUTTING EDGE EVENT IN THE MOST AUTHENTIC ENVIRONMENT OF FINLAND
EDEN, continuing its successful series of conferences, invites you to join the community of educational professionals in discovering the state of art, innovative practice and future scenarios for the European agenda of lifelong learning.
Lifelong learning is high on the agenda in Europe: having enjoyed a continuously increasing policy profile, it is now the key term for the new generation of integrated educational and training programmes of the European Union in 2007 - 2013.
Bringing e-learning closer to lifelong learning is very relevant today. Education systems are seriously facing the modernisation challenge as a result of the Lisbon process. The importance of flexible delivery modes and institutions is increasing. Lifelong learning obviously implies intensive interaction between the world of work and the different educational sectors. Adult and lifelong learning represent a more and more essential part of the portfolio of traditional educational institutions.
The EDEN 2005 conference will focus on open, distance and e-learning from the perspective of lifelong learning, with the approach of collaboration and knowledge transfer from all educational sectors, including adult and vocational education. The event will especially address the transversal and intersectoral issues, in particular the role of universities, as well as post-secondary and tertiary further education.
CONFERENCE THEMES
A variety of themes are offered both in the general professional and in the lifelong learning, adult education and vocational training specific context, which form the main strands of the conference. THE CONFERENCE VENUE
Finland is often described as “one great national park” and indeed visitors can everywhere enjoy the exceptional harmony of nature and people in this country. The Finnish landscape, with its hundreds of thousands of lakes, the long coastline, the granite bedrock seen everywhere, both in the forests and in the cities, is very relaxing. Finland’s capital Helsinki is one of the most pleasant ones; it is surrounded by sea and green forests, its public transportation is efficient and convenient, it is pedestrian-friendly and cultural activities are abundant.
The venue of the EDEN conference, Espoo, is a city close to nature being surrounded by a beautiful archipelago down south and large forests up north. Helsinki University of Technology – Dipoli is situated in the heart of Otaniemi Science Park, center of Finnish High-Tech in Espoo, dedicated to Research, Higher Education and Business. Study site-visits in different institutes of the Science park will be offered as pre-conference events. You can get to the centre of Helsinki in 15 minutes and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport can also be reached in half an hour.
Midsummer Eve celebrations in Finland are held during the weekend following the 21 June, in 2005 just after the EDEN Conference. There will be arrangements for interested delegates to join one of the most popular Midsummer Festives.
