Dear Gustaf Neumann,
KMIS 2009 - International Conference on Knowledge Management and Information Sharing - has currently an open call for papers. We hope to count with your participation in this conference by submitting a paper reflecting your research. KMIS 2009 will be held in Funchal, Madeira (a Portuguese sub-tropical island in the Atlantic), next October 6-8, and it aims at becoming a top reference for researchers and practitioners in its area.
Knowledge Management (KM) is a discipline concerned with the analysis and technical support of practices used in an organization to identify, create, represent, distribute and enable the adoption and leveraging of good practices embedded in collaborative settings and, in particular, in organizational processes. Effective knowledge management is an increasingly important source of competitive advantage, and a key to the success of contemporary organizations, bolstering the collective expertise of its employees and partners. There are several perspectives on KM, but all share the same core components, namely: People, Processes and Technology. Some take a techno-centric focus, in order to enhance knowledge integration and creation; some take an organizational focus, in order to optimize organization design and workflows; some take an ecological focus, where the important aspects are related to people interaction, knowledge and environmental factors as a complex adaptive system similar to a natural ecosystem. Information Sharing (IS) is a term used for a long time in the information technology (IT) lexicon, related to data exchange, communication protocols and technological infrastructures. Although standardization is indeed an essential element for sharing information, IS effectiveness requires going beyond the syntactic nature of IT and delve into the human functions involved in the semantic, pragmatic and social levels of organizational semiotics.
This meeting will take place yearly, bringing together top researchers and practitioners in knowledge technologies, especially those related to KMIS main topic areas. The conference is co-located with two related conferences in a joint conference format, namely: - Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval (http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/) - Knowledge Engineering and Ontology Development (http://www.keod.ic3k.org/) Registration to one conference allows free access to all conferences.
The technical program will include a number of Keynote Lectures to be delivered by distinguished world-class researchers, including: - Andreas Dengel, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI GmbH), Germany - David Jensen, University of Massachusetts Amherst, U.S.A. - Dan Kirsch, Knowledge Management Professional Society (KMPro), U.S.A. - Steffen Staab, University of Koblenz, Germany - Justin Zhan, Carnegie Mellon University, U.S.A.
Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, in paper and in CD-ROM support. Additionally, a selection of the best papers of the conference will be published by Springer in the series "Communications in Computer and Information Science". Best paper awards will also be distributed during the conference. The conference proceedings will be indexed in the DBLP Computer Science Bibliography.
Special sessions are also invited. If you'd like to take the opportunity to gather your R&D project group or hold a meeting within the scope of IC3K at the conference venue, please contact the secretariat. Special session papers will be included in the conference proceedings.
