The : Consortium will provide a unique opportunity for doctoral and some : masters research/MPhil students at an advanced stage in their : studies, to present their work to an audience of peers and : faculty. A friendly and constructive event is planned which will : provide valuable feedback on the Ph.D. research process. : : CONSORTIUM CO-CHAIRS: : Ryutaro Manabe, Bunkyo University, Japan (consortium logistics) : Guy Gable, Queensland University of Technology, Australia : (consortium communications) : : In addition to Professors Gable and Manabe, consortium faculty : members include Phillip Ein-Dor, Michael Myers, and Allen Lee : (keynote speaker). : : NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA: : : 1) Students cannot apply directly but can only be nominated by : their faculty. To nominate a student, the Director of the Ph.D. : program (or other appropriate person, such as the Department Chair : or the student's supervisor) must provide the following : application materials as an e-mail message and as an email : attachment (Word format and in English): : a) A letter of nomination including the following: : i) Title of the dissertation/thesis/project. : ii) Data on the nominee: name, sex, mailing and e-mail address, : phone and fax numbers, department and institution, degree type : (Ph.D. student or masters research student). : iii) Data on the nominating faculty member: name, mailing and e- : mail address, phone and fax numbers, department and institution : b) A short paper summarizing the research. The length should be : no more than 1000 words, roughly equivalent to three double-spaced : pages on letter size or A4 sheets. The submission should include : the stage of the research, an outline of objectives, research : problem, literature, methodology, and expected outcome. : : 2) To be eligible for the Consortium the student will need to be a : current doctoral or masters research student within a recognised : university. If no appropriate Ph.D. students are eligible from a : university, the faculty may nominate a strong research masters : student who intends converting to Ph.D. : : 3) Submissions will be reviewed by a group of researchers and : faculty within PACIS Committee and the best submission will be : judged to receive a prize with the winner announced during the : conference. : : 4) All submissions must be received by 1 March 2000 at the latest. : Submissions received sooner will be evaluated and a decision made : within one month of receipt. You are encouraged to submit as soon : as possible as there are a limited number of places available. : : 5) The language for the Consortium is English, and all submitted : materials must be in English. Students must have sufficient : proficiency in English to participate in the scientific : discussions of the Consortium. : Selection is competitive with a maximum of 20 participants, based : on the quality of the research, the contribution the student may : make to the Consortium, and potential benefit of the Consortium to : the student's research. The consortium will include a balanced : mix of students representing diverse research topics, methods, : schools, and cultures. The Consortium will provide no support for travel expenses. : Institutions are encouraged to provide financial assistance for : travel to successful nominees.
