The purpose of this handbook is to analyse how artificial intelligence is created, applied and utilised in public management worldwide, in order to offer better digital services, support complex decision-making processes and enhance the quality of citizen life in sustainable ways. Key issues with regards to both the governance with AI and of AI in the public sector will be discussed, drawing on a variety of methodologies, theoretical frameworks and empirical cases, in order to capture the unique phenomena triggered by the increasing adoption of AI in public management. This handbook aims at bringing together contributions from experts in many areas of artificial intelligence and digital governance, in an attempt to explain how AI affects various types of administrations, and how the public sector is affecting the evolution of focused and more generic AI systems and infrastructures.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION PROCESS Interested researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before 1st of October 2021 a brief proposal, including:

* The title of the proposed chapter * The area of submission (Area 1- 6, as above) * An extended abstract (up to 500 words), indicating the purpose, the methods and the foreseen results of the proposed chapter * Brief author(s) CV(s) (up to 150 words per author) Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by 1st of November 2021 on the status of their proposals and will be sent additional guidelines. Full chapters must be between 8,000 and 10,000 words and are expected to be submitted by April 1st 2022. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis.
