Forwarded message from [ksiau@UNLNOTES.UNL.EDU] sent originally on Wed, 2 Feb 2000 19:41:30 -0600: : CALL FOR PAPERS : : Fifth CAiSE/IFIP8.1 International Workshop on : Evaluation of Modeling Methods in Systems Analysis and Design : (EMMSAD'00) : : Stockholm, Sweden : June 5-6, 2000 : : Workshop Theme: : Methods and Methodologies for Scalable Enterprise Systems Development : : http://www.ait.unl.edu/doc2/faculty/siau/conference/EMMSAD00.htm : : Workshop Organizers: : : Dr. Keng Siau, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA (Chair) : Dr. Yair Wand, University of British Columbia, Canada : Dr. Andrew Gemino, Simon Fraser University, Canada : : Workshop Background: : : Modeling is an essential component of information systems analysis and design : (SA&D). New paradigms (e.g., OO) and new methods within a paradigm (e.g., UML) : are constantly being introduced. Some researchers call the field a : "methodological jungle." In addition, most modeling methods and methodologies : evolve from experience. A linkage to science is warranted. Scientific : approaches that are based on theoretical foundation and systematic empirical : evaluations would clearly benefit the field. : : The Workshop on Evaluation of Modeling Methods in Systems Analysis and Design : (EMMSAD'00) is dedicated to issues related to the development and evaluation of : modeling methods in SA&D. EMMSAD'00 is 5th in the workshop series that began in : 1996. EMMSAD workshops have been very successful in bringing together : researchers and practitioners in information systems, method engineering, : software engineering, database, and human computer interaction that are : interested in modeling methods and methodologies in systems analysis and design. : EMMSAD workshops provide a forum for researchers and practitioners in the area : to meet and exchange research ideas and results. : : EMMSAD'00 is an event jointly sponsored by the Conference on Advanced : Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE) and the International Federation for : Information Processing Working Group 8.1 (IFIP8.1). : : Theme and Topics for Workshop: : : The theme for EMMSAD'00 is "Methods and Methodologies for Scalable Enterprise : Systems Development." Information systems are no longer designed and developed : to support a single organization. New information systems will span different : organizations and geographical locations. Business-to-business transactions : will be the new wave in electronic commerce. To support such functions, : information systems need to be scalable. A new breed of information modeling : methods and methodologies needs to be engineered to support these new endeavors. : : EMMSAD'00 will provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to share and : discuss theories, research methodologies, and research findings. We welcome : submissions on theoretical and/or empirical evaluation of modeling methods and : methodologies related to: : : * Scalable Enterprise Systems : * Unified Modeling Language (UML) : * Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) : * Knowledge Management Systems : * Component-based Software Engineering : * Electronic Commerce/Business : * Web-based Information Systems : * Method Engineering : * Metamodeling : * Internet Database : * Data Warehousing : * Data Mining : * Bioinformatics : * Health Information Systems : * Geographical Information Systems : : We are particularly interested in research papers that directly address the : theme of this workshop. Evaluation of new software development approaches such : as UML is strongly encouraged. Research methodologies involving case studies, : action research, and experience reports are welcome. : : Important Dates: : : Deadline for papers (received): February 20, 2000 : Notification of paper acceptance: April 1, 2000 : Deadline for camera-ready copies: May 1, 2000 : : Submission Guidelines: : : The workshop accepts two types of submissions - Completed Research and : Research-In-Progress. Completed research papers should include analysis of data : and discussion on research findings. Research-in-progress papers report on : research that is well under way with preliminary results available at the time : of the conference. : : Please use the following format for your submissions: : * For Completed Research submissions, the paper should not exceed 5,000 words : (excluding references and appendices). Top papers in this category will be : recommended for journal publication or for inclusion as book chapters. : * For Research-In-Progress submissions, the paper should not exceed 2,000 words : (excluding references and appendices). : * Include a cover page with title of paper as well as the authors' names, : affiliations, phones, faxes, and email addresses. The total number of words in : the paper (excluding cover page, tables, and references) and the submission : category (i.e., Completed Research or Research-In-Progress) should be indicated : on the cover page. : * The second page should begin with the title of the paper followed by an : abstract of no more than 150 words. The main text will follow the abstract. : This is to facilitate the blind review process. : * Use 1.5 or double spacing (except for references), and fonts no smaller than : 11-point. : : Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Email your article as an : attachment to mis-kengsiau@unlnotes.unl.edu. Please send electronic submissions : in Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, or PDF format. : : International Program Committee: : : * David Avison, University of Southampton, UK : * Richard Baskerville, Georgia State University, USA : * Dinesh Batra, Florida International University, USA : * Shirley Becker, Florida Institute of Technology, USA : * Sjaak Brinkkemper, Baan Company R&D, The Netherlands : * Hock Chuan Chan, National University of Singapore, Singapore : * Roger Chiang, University of Cincinnati, USA : * Jasbir Dhaliwal, Technical University of British Columbia, Canada : * Jan Dietz, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands : * Guy Fitzgerald, Brunel University, UK : * Juhani Iivari, University of Oulu, Finland : * Sirkka Jarvenpaa, University of Texas at Austin, USA : * Hannu Kangassalo, University of Tampere, Finland : * Julie Kendall, Rutgers University, USA : * Kenneth Kendall, Rutgers University, USA : * Steven Kelly, MetaCase Consulting, Finland : * Mehdi Khosrowpour, Penn State University, USA : * Ting Peng Liang, National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan : * Ee Peng Lim, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore : * Tok Wang Ling, National University of Singapore, Singapore : * Sal March, University of Minnesota, USA : * Graham McLeod, University of Cape Town, South Africa : * Fui Hoon (Fiona) Nah, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA : * Peter Axel Nielsen, Aalborg University, Denmark : * Antoni Olive, Universitat Politecnica Catalunya, Spain : * Jeffrey Parsons, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada : * Sudha Ram, University of Arizona, USA : * Colette Rolland, University of Paris 1, France : * Matti Rossi, Helsinki School of Economics, Finland : * Michael Shaw, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA : * Sandra Slaughter, Carnegie Mellon University, USA : * Peretz Shoval, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel : * Arne Solvberg, University of Trondheim, Norway : * Jan Stage, Aalborg University, Denmark : * Ronald Stamper, University of Twente, The Netherlands : * Veda Storey, Georgia State University, USA : * Bernard Tan, National University of Singapore, Singapore : * Jon Turner, New York University, USA : * Ramesh Venkataraman, Indiana University, USA : * Chris Wagner, City University of Hong Kong, China : * Kwok Kee Wei, National University of Singapore, Singapore : : For more information, please contact: : : Keng Siau, Ph.D. : Department of Management : 209 College of Business Administration : University of Nebraska-Lincoln : Lincoln, NE 68588-0491, USA : Telephone: +1-402-472-3078 : Fax: +1-402-472-5855 : Workshop Email: mis-kengsiau@unlnotes.unl.edu : Personal Email: ksiau@unl.edu : URL: http://www.ait.unl.edu/doc2/faculty/siau/ : : ÿÿStart of ISWorld List Footer ÿÿ : ISWorld list is a service of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) : (http://www.aisnet.org) hosted at University College Dublin.
