First Call for Papers
9th Workshop of the Multimedia Metadata Community (WMM'09)
with a special focus on context-aware mobile multimedia services
http://coresa2009.enseeiht.fr/#workshops
March 19th-20th
To be held in conjunction with CORESA'09
Invited speaker:
Timo Ojala, University of Oulu, Finland
Background:
It can be expected in the near future that the number of created digital multimedia content will rise dramatically. Multimedia metadata is currently the only way to cope with problems like semantics based retrieval or organization of content and provides means to specify adaptation and delivery constraints and rules. In addition, the integration of accurate hand-held positioning within mobile phones, PDAs, portable computer and the like have brought location-based services directly to individuals, transforming the way we work, travel or play. Therefore location has become an important element of the context when using a mobile multimedia application. The usage context becomes richer and provides new hints for search, delivery and consumption to individual user's situations.
This workshop proposes to disseminate ideas on multimedia content analysis, indexing and retrieval, multimedia semantics and in special on the usage of location information for smart media acquisition and multimedia content analysis.
Organization:
The Multimedia Metadata Community (www.multimedia-metadata.info) has already organized a series of 8 successful workshops in the past taking place in Aachen, Berlin, Graz and Klagenfurt.
The Multimedia Metadata Community welcomes and encourages submissions from outside the core community to broaden aspects and extend the active and successful community and network with new members.
The 9th meeting will be organized in Toulouse as a special session of the 13th French Multimedia Conference on Compression and Representation of Audiovisual Signals (CORESA 2009). Both events will share joint panels and sessions bringing researchers and industry experts to fruitful discussions. On March 18th afternoon, an industrial session including LBS demos of the Toulouse Open platform (www.navigation-satellites-toulouse.com) will bootstrap the academic program.
The WMM'09 workshop is organized by the Institute of Research in Informatics (IRIT) of the University of Toulouse (www.irit.fr). The WMM'09 chairs are Romulus Grigoras (romulus.grigoras AT enseeiht.fr) and Vincent Charvillat (vincent.charvillat AT enseeiht.fr).
Important Dates:
 Submission deadline : Dec. 1 2008 Notification upon acceptance : Jan. 13 2009 Camera-ready papers deadline : Feb. 13 2009 Workshop : Mar. 19 to 20 2009 (Mar. 18 for the industrial demo session)
Topics of interest include:
Multimedia Metadata: interoperability, semantics, content analysis Multimedia databases and information management Mobile multimedia metadata Location and Context Modeling for mobile multimedia communities User-adaptive maps Visual 2D/3D registration for LBS: integrating GPS/GNSS signals and GIS data, metadata Personalized/location-aware delivery of multimedia content
Besides traditional applications using multimedia metadata, we are seeking:
Location-based multimedia applications such as: LBS for mobile citizens and workers (individuals and groups) LBS for geographical coordination in emergency scenario Next-generation multimedia guiding applications such as rich media tourist guides Standards, open architectures, standardized APIs for context-aware multimedia information systems
Submission & Contact:
Submissions must be in English. All submissions will be reviewed for relevance, originality, significance, soundness and clarity by three reviewers. The page limit is 20 pages for full papers, 10 pages for short papers. The submissions should follow the LNI format specification (see http://tinyurl.com/y48b6a)
Proceedings will be published before the workshop. Selected workshop papers will be invited for a special issue in the Journal for Digital Information Management (http://www.dirf.org/jdim/).
