CALL FOR ABSTRACTS/PAPERS -------------------------------------------------------------------- *************************************************** ************** BACKGROUND ************** IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) will be held on Oct. 7-10, 2001, Tucson, Arizona. The conference website (http://www.ieeesmc.org) contains detailed information on conference schedules, registration, and travel arrangements.
The mini symposium on Intelligent Web Caching for E-Businesses is part of IEEE SMC'01 and will comprise of several invited paper presentation sessions. These sessions will be organized to explore and present the recent research achievements and the cutting-edge industrial applications focusing on web caching technology and its applications in E-Businesses.
****** TOPICS ****** Topics related to the design, analysis, and implementation of web caching systems and their applications in E-Business contexts are of interest. These include, but are not limited to the following areas:
- Caching system architecture and protocols - Cache proxy cooperation - Cache routing/prefetching/placing/replacement/coherence strategies - Performance evaluation - Web usage pattern analysis - Intersection of web caching and database research - Industrial trends and case studies

The abstract format requirement is attached at the end of this announcement. The due date for the abstract submission is June 10, 2001.
*************************** PAPER SUBMISSION (OPTIONAL) *************************** Full-length paper submission for the mini symposium on Intelligent Web Caching for E-Businesses is optional. If you would like to submit a paper to accompany with your talk, the paper accepted for presentation in the symposium will appear in the IEEE SMC Proceedings and its CD-ROM. Please refer to the Web http://www.ieeesmc.org for detailed paper format. June 12, 2001 is the full paper submission deadline.
A special issue on Web caching in a leading academic journal is being planned. Based on symposium presentations, interested authors are encouraged to submit their work in full-length papers to be considered for this special issue. Detailed information will be announced to symposium attendees when final arrangements are reached with the journal editor(s).

******************************* ABSTRACT PREPARATION GUIDELINES ******************************* Please prepare your one-page abstract based on the following guidelines.
1. All text and illustrations must appear within a 7x9 in. (178x229mm) area. For US standard size paper (8.5x11 in.), margins are 0.75 in (18mm) left and right, and 1 in top and bottom. For A4 size paper, margins are 17 mm left and right, 25mm top, and 45 mm bottom.
2. Use 10-point Times Roman or similar typeface for main text. Single space all text, allow extra space between paragraphs.
3. Title (16 pt. Bold, centered) Capitalize only first word and proper names.
4. Authors names, affiliation (12 pt., centered) omit titles or degrees.
5. Five section headings (11 pt. bold). The following five headings may be used: Purpose, Method, Results, New or breakthrough aspect of work, and Conclusions
