THE 2nd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 21st - 24th of April 2002
After the successful ICCS 2001 conference in San Francisco we are now organizing ICCS 2002, in association with the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the HPCN-Europe foundation.

This is the first call for Papers and Event Proposals for the ICCS 2002 conference.
Details of the conference and the submission procedures can be found below and at the conference web sites.
Please note that a number of high quality tutorials are planned for April 21st.
Important Dates --------------- November 1, 2001: Deadline for paper submission (full papers) and event proposals.
December 21, 2001: Notification of acceptance.
January 15, 2002: Camera Ready Papers and Pre-registration.
April 21 - 24, 2002: ICCS 2002 Conference in Amsterdam
Introduction ------------ The 2002 International Conference on Computational Science will be held at the Science Park Watergraafsmeer at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, The Netherlands. From April 21st till April 24th, 2002.
Computational Science is increasingly becoming a vital part of many scientific investigations, affecting researchers and practitioners in areas ranging from engineering, sciences, finance and economics.
New challenges are in the fields of modelling of complex systems, sophisticated algorithms, advanced scientific computing and associated (multi-disciplinary) Problem Solving Environments. Due to the sheer size of these challenges the use of super computing and distributed- and grid based processing is inevitable.
The Conference offers the opportunity to discuss problems and solutions in this field, to identify new issues, and to shape future directions for research.
We invite you to submit a:
o full paper of 6 to 10 pages (Letter or A4 paper) for oral presentation
o proposal to organize a technical session, workshop or mini symposium.
Submitted papers have to be original, containing new and original results.
Topics of Interest ------------------ The second ICCS conference will, among other topics, concentrate on (in no particular order):
* Complex Systems: Modelling and Simulation * Hybrid Computational Methods * Data Mining and Information Retrieval * Web- and grid based Simulation and Computing * Parallel and Distributed Computing * Visualization and Virtual Reality * New large scale simulation application areas: * Finance * Economics * Biology * Chemistry * Risk Analyses * New Algorithmic approaches to existing application area's, e.g.: * Weather and Climate Forecasting and Modelling * Connectionist Modelling * Fuzzy Logic * Reliability Engineering * Digital Imaging * Scientific Computing * Advanced Numerical Algorithms * Problem Solving Environments (including: Software Component Technology) * Education in Computational Science
Paper Submission ---------------- The submitted paper must be camera-ready and formatted according to the rules of LNCS. See http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html for formatting information.
For all details with respect to the electronic submission see http://www.science.uva.nl/events/ICCS2002.
Proposal for Organizing Technical Sessions and/or Workshops ----------------------------------------------------------- We invite proposals for technical sessions and workshops. Each technical session will have at least 6 paper presentations. Sessions with a large number of papers may be approved as workshops. The session chairs will be responsible for all aspects of their sessions; including soliciting, reviewing, and selecting the papers. Some financial assistance may be available for the session chairs. After the Conference, some sessions will be considered for publication in appropriate journals as Special Issues with the session proposer as the Guest Editor of the journal.
Proposals to organize technical sessions should include the following information:
o title of the technical session
o name, affiliation, mailing address and e-mail address of the proposer(s)
o description of the topic of the session (not exceeding 100 words)
o a short description on how the session will be advertised
The deadline for proposal submission is November 1, 2001. Please send your proposal to iccs@science.uva.nl.
Proceedings ----------- The proceedings of the Conference will be published in the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series. A selected number of papers will also be published as special issues in appropriate journals.
