**Digital Humanism Summer School 2023**: Application deadline extended to July 21, 2023 https://dighum.org/summerschool2023/
We are pleased to announce that the 2nd ACM Digital Humanism Summer Schoolhttps://dighum.org/summerschool2023/ will take place from *September 4th to 8th, 2023 at TU Wien, Austria*. *Digital Humanism* is an interdisciplinary field that examines the complex interplay between technology and humankind with the aim of creating a better society and improving our lives. It recognizes that an interdisciplinary approach is necessary, breaking down disciplinary silos and integrating humanities, social, technical, and engineering sciences.
The Summer School focuses on topics at the *intersection of technology, ethics, and society*. This year, there is a particular emphasis on large language models such as ChatGPT and generative artificial intelligence, as well as the philosophical and ethical implications of these models and their impact on the state and democracy. International experts will present on these subjects. Additionally, there will be applied exercises involving generative AI and group projects on various use cases, including AI in public service and policy-making. These topics will be introduced by *internationally renowned experts*, including George Metakides (Digital Enlightenment Forum), Erich Prem (eutema and University of Vienna), Viola Schiaffonati (Politecnico di Milano), Edward A. Lee (UC Berkeley), Allison Stanger (Middlebury College), Paul Timmers (Oxford University and KU Leuven), David Rolnick (McGill University), Anna Bon (VU Amsterdam) as well as Monika Lanzenberger (European Commission).
The Summer School primarily targets doctoral students from various disciplines. Advanced master's students and postdocs, as well as participants from other institutions or companies, are also warmly welcome. No technical background is required, but the willingness to engage with the theoretical foundations of AI and machine learning and actively participate in practical technical exercises, including the use of software frameworks and the implementation of simple projects under guidance, is important. The entire Summer School will be conducted in English. The number of participants is around 50. A *limited number of scholarships*, including registration fee waivers and full scholarships, are awarded on the basis of merit and financial need. Furthermore, ACM will provide *free 1-year memberships* for all students attending the school. Extended *deadline for applications is July 21st, 2023*. Please find further details about the application process here: https://dighum.org/summerschool2023/application/.
