WEB-BASED EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENTS FOR LIFELONG LEARNING
CALL FOR PAPERS
In today's rapidly changing technological world learning becomes a lifelong activity. The traditional forms of college, continuous and adult education however are not sufficient to support it, as lifelong learners may not be learning in the traditional setting. Web-based education and learning come as a possible answer to it. The increasing popularity of the Web-based educational environments is due to their clear benefits - classroom independence and platform independence. This independence promotes the new emerging model of education in which the traditional classrooms are complemented or replaced by Web-based virtual classrooms that can accommodate people of different knowledge and cultural backgrounds.
The purpose of this special issue is to provide better understanding of the emerging trends in research, design, implementation and evaluation of Web-based educational systems, as well as tools for supporting professional communities and individual lifelong learners in their Web-based learning. Topics of interest for the special issue include:
* Virtual realities and virtual campuses: implications and designs for lifelong learning * Pedagogical issues in Web-based learning and training that impact on the potential for lifelong learning * Design, implementation and evaluation of Web-based educational systems * Authoring tools and application of agents technology to the development of Web-based educational environments * Web information support for on-line learning communities and individual lifelong learners including Web-based resources, collaborative filtering and social navigation for Web information retrieval and Web information services through mobile devices
All papers will be refereed according to standard IJCEELL procedures and should be submitted to the SPECIAL ISSUE GUEST EDITORS. The deadline for submissions is March 15th 2002. However, if you are planning to submit a paper, we ask you to contact the Guest Editors as early as possible (please send the intended title and a short abstract).
