CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS 2012) August 9-12, 2012, Seattle, WA, USA
Track: Data and Information Quality (SIGDQIQ) Minitrack: Data Governance and Master Data Management
DESCRIPTION
Data Governance defines the decision-making framework for the management and use of the key business data objects in a company. In many cases, these key business data objects are master data, i.e. data about customers, products, suppliers, but also about employees, charts of accounts, product hierarchies etc. Master data management is referred to as an application-independent function which describes and manages master data in an organization. It ensures high quality of these data by providing guidelines for its management and it creates a common view on the data. Thus, Data Governance and Master Data Management are closely interrelated. While Data Governance is about the roles and responsibilities required for making decisions with regard to data, Master Data Management is about executing and implementing these decisions.
The relevance of both Data Governance and Master Data Management stems from the importance key business data objects play for businesses. The quality of these data is a prerequisite for complying with regulatory and legal provisions, taking an 360 degree perspective on the customer, and providing a "single source of the truth" for company-wide reporting needs. Despite the relevance of the issue, current efforts in practice leave much to be desired. Moreover, the topic has been discussed in the information systems (IS) research area to a marginal extent only so far.
The proposed mini-track addresses this gap and aims at giving a forum for novel concepts and research work in the following areas:
* Theoretical foundations of Data Governance and Master Data Management * Evolution of Data Governance arrangements over time * Value of Data Governance and Master Data Management * Human factors affecting Data Governance arrangements and the success of Master Data Management * Design theories for Data Governance and Master Data Management * Data Governance and Corporate Governance * Master data centric business models * Master Data Management and Business Process Management * Interdependencies between Data Governance and/or Master Data Management and Enterprise Architecture Management * Software support for Data Governance and Master Data Management * Master data quality * Master data lifecycle management * Master data architectures and deployment scenarios * Business metadata management * Standardization activities * Case studies and applications * Industry specific aspects
The minitrack chairs welcome innovative research papers from both the academic and the practitioners’ community.
