Dear colleagues,
we are very happy to invite papers and participation to our AMCIS 2021 mini track on “*AI Applications in Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIG DITE)*”.
Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are considered a key driver of the fourth industrial revolution (Schwab, 2016). They are becoming increasingly ubiquitous in everyday life and almost all industry sectors. As artificial intelligence (AI) technologies mature, we see AI applications rising beyond traditional domains such as robotics, image recognition, natural language processing, and virtual agents (Brynjolfsson & Mcafee, 2017; Iansiti & Lakhani, 2020). Increasingly, AI applications not only automate tasks that have traditionally been performed entirely by humans but also augment them (Raisch & Krakowski, 2020). This augmentation potential opens up entirely new pathways and opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation (e.g., Murray, Rhymer, & Sirmon, 2020; Nambisan, 2016; Yoo, Henfridsson, & Lyytinen, 2010). As a result, research on digital entrepreneurship and innovation is increasingly interested in understanding how AI technologies enable entrepreneurship and innovation, result as its outcome, or provide a context for it (e.g., von Briel 2020, Nambisan 2017). However, research on the role of AI technologies in entrepreneurship and innovation is still in its infancy (e.g., Chalmers, MacKenzie, & Carter, 2020). For example, we know little about how material characteristics of AI applications, such as self-learning, data-dependency or black boxing, relate to digital innovation and entrepreneurship. Neither do we understand how interactions between AI applications and humans, such as designers or users, impact innovation and entrepreneurship.
