*Call for Papers for Pre-ECIS 2013 Workshop*
*Large-scale communication systems in search of better theories and methods*
June 4, 2013
IS projects frequently exceed the boundaries of a single organisation.
Enterprise systems more and more often contain interorganisational
elements, and digital collaboration takes place at a seemingly
ever-increasing scale. However, these cross-organisational IT projects
require a different approach with different concepts, strategies and
methods. That is why large-scale information infrastructures often fail
and sometimes even backfire. The assessment framework of
Chain-computerisation (Grijpink, 2010) enables reducing these often
costly mistakes. With the results of a chain analysis, a chain
information strategy can be defined focused on the development and
maintenance of chain information systems. An organisation strategy can
be derived from the chain analysis results, as well.
With this workshop, we hope to further the debate on concepts, theories
and methods for improving the chances of large-scale,
interorganisational IT projects.
This call concerns a workshop organized before the 2013 European
Conference on Information Systems (ECIS). We invite researchers, PhD
students, and practitioners to join the discussion and present their
work in this area. Manuscripts ideally focus on large-scale chain
information systems covering theoretical, methodical, and/or practical
aspects. Research papers are especially welcome.
*Topics of interest*
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Interorganisational information systems (IOS)
- Interorganisational relationships (IOR)
- Large-scale information infrastructures
- Identity (fraud) in IOS
- Privacy in IOS
- Chain analyses of social chains
- Coping with resistance to change in large-scale situations of
co-operation and information exchange
- Governance of large-scale co-operation
*Workshop organizers*
- Prof. Dr. Mr. J.H.A.M. Grijpink, Emeritus, Utrecht University, the
Netherlands
- Dr. M.G.A. Plomp, VU University Amsterdam, the Netherlands
- Mrs. T. Visser, MSc, PwC, the Netherlands
The e-mail address that should be used for all communication regarding
this workshop is: ecisworkshop@gmail.com.
*Important dates*
Submissions due: 14 March 2013
Acceptance notification: 16 April 2013
Final versions due for proceedings: 15 May 2013
Workshop: 4 June 2013
To submit your paper, send an e-mail with the manuscript as a Word
attachment to ecisworkshop@gmail.com with subject line "ECIS workshop
paper submission". Submitted papers should adhere to a document
template, which can be found here: http://jcc.library.uu.nl/ .
Papers submitted to this workshop will be subject to peer review.
Authors submitting to the workshop agree to review at least one other paper.
A special issue will be prepared for the Journal of
Chain-computerisation (JCC). JCC publishes articles on large-scale
information exchange for social issues. The journal focuses on the
development and maintenance of information-infrastructures for chain
wide co-operation of independent organisations and professionals in a
specific social sector, e.g. criminal law enforcement, health care,
identity management or education. For more information, see:
http://jcc.library.uu.nl/index.php/JCC. Selected papers from the
workshop will be invited to submit an extended version of their work to
this special issue.
