The symposium will take place in Rheinfelden near Basel, Switzerland. For further information please refer to our Web site (http://e-business.fhbb.ch/rseem). It would be a great pleasure for us to welcome you in Basel.
We would like to ask you to forward this E-Mail to anybody you think might be interested in submitting a paper. We have prepared a pdf-document containing the Call for Papers (PDF-File -> http://e-business.fhbb.ch/events/rseem.nsf/pages/cfp). We would appreciate if you could post it in your university.
We are looking forward to your interesting submission.

Focus Topic "Matching Vendor and Buyer Needs": E-Procurement
The Research Symposium on Emerging Electronic Markets (RSEEM) is a yearly conference with a focus in the field of electronic markets. Its goal is to provide a forum for researchers to present and discuss their current work. In order to stimulate a lively discussion the number of participants will be limited to approx. 30 people. The participants are encouraged to join an active discussion. We see the unique character of RSEEM in a small community comprised of a core of mature researchers (professors) plus a number of junior researchers (PhD. students). The conference is divided into two parts: First day: Presentations and discussion of the special conference topic "E-Procurement" Second day: The future of research in E-Markets and E-Societies (future projects, visions, ideas, prospects) We call for papers for both days. Compared with recent years we would like to further extend time for discussion. The first day is meant to follow the "traditional conference approach" where ongoing PhD. theses and projects are presented by junior researchers and input is given by the mature participants. On the second day we would like to have short presentations of visions of the future followed by a free discussion among the participants. Such discussions could result into ideas of future (joint) projects. This would stress the aspect of EMERGING markets as suggested by the conference title. This year the focus will be on "matching needs" - the topic of bringing together vendors and buyers or, more specifically, E-Procurement. E-Procurement systems support the internal processes for the purchase of products and services. The transfer of electronic product catalogs from the sell-side to the buy-side is one of today's main challenges in electronic commerce. A specific challenge is bridging the gap between companies using common formats and protocols. Possible research topics could be but are not limited to - market mechanisms (portals, market players, ...) - integration of product catalogues - e-procurement (Ariba, CommerceOne, ...) - formats and standards (XML, BizTalk, ...) - ERP buy-side integration Important Dates Submission of paper proposals (< 1000 words) May 31, 2002 Notification of acceptance July 1, 2002 Submission of full papers August 30, 2002 Research symposium September 21-23, 2002 Orbit/Comdex Europe (optional) September 24-27, 2002
Submission instructions All paper submissions to RSEEM 2002 must be in English, and should represent the original work of the authors. We call for papers which are either related to the focus topic (E-Procurement) or address visions and future perspectives of E-Markets and E-Societies. The first submission (paper proposal, deadline May 31) should not exceed 1000 words (excluding references). Contact information of the corresponding authors has to be included. Acceptance will be based on relevance, originality, and suitability for discussion. Based on the decision of the programme committee, submissions of full papers (based on the RSEEM style sheet) are required before August 30. Papers accepted for presentation will be included in the proceedings. There are no rigid guidelines regarding paper size for the final research papers. We ask you to submit between 4 and 12 pages. Papers for the first day would typically reflect current research, i.e. contents of PhD. theses. For the second day we expect short papers about future projects, visions, ideas, prospects, etc. Detailed submission instructions http://e-business.fhbb.ch/events/rseem.nsf/pages/cfp Contact All submissions and questions should be addressed to Uwe Leimstoll (mailto:rseem@e-business.fhbb.ch)
