Eighth Research Symposium on Emerging Electronic Markets (RSEEM)
"Multidisciplinary Research on Trust Issues in Electronic Markets"
16-18 September 2001, Kasteel Vaeshartelt, Maastricht, Netherlands
http://www-i5.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/conf/rseem2001
Objectives ==========
Electronic markets have been the subject of research for a number of years. We have observed the shift from a research vision to a commercially exploited implementation of the vision. Today, a number of marketplaces offer their services to the interested customer. In order to attract new customers and to distinguish itself from other competitors, an electronic marketplace nowadays needs to offer services beyond the simple support of search-negotiate-fulfil.
Examples of such extended services include sophisticated search mechanisms (such as semantic search), the monitoring of commerce processes in order to detect problems in the fulfilment phase, the certification of products and services to ensure a certain standard or quality, or different payment models for different contexts.
Trust services are another example of extended services for making a marketplace attractive. Since the interpersonal relationships that play an important role in traditional commerce processes are substituted by electronic forms of interaction, the issue of trust becomes relevant. How can trust in the marketplace, in the business partner, in the technology be achieved in such "non-co-presence situations"? What are the implications of such trust? Which psychological or sociological theories can help in understanding how trust is established and why trust sometimes will not manifest? How can technology help to achieve a level of trust in a particular electronic marketplace? These are some of the questions that will be addressed during the workshop.
Important Dates ===============
Submission of papers 15 June 2001 Notification of Acceptance 2 July 2001 Submission of revised papers 15 August 2001 Research symposium 16-18 September 2001
Call for Submissions ====================
We solicit papers about technological, formal, engineering, sociological, and psychological research. The approaches can be multidisciplinary in themselves or they can contribute to a multidisciplinary workshop setting where such different approaches are presented and discussed.
We are particularly interested in papers dealing with topics related to the workshop theme. These include but are not limited to the following topics:
* Building trust in electronic markets * The role of trusted third parties * Monitoring interactions in electronic markets * Additional services for electronic markets, e.g. licensing, certification * Component-based models of electronic markets * Data management for electronic markets * Negotiations in electronic markets * Mediating interactions in electronic markets
The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for researchers in all areas of electronic markets to present and discuss their work. We seek a mix of participants ranging from PhD students to senior academics. Each participant must be an active contributor, i.e. presenter and/or discussant.
Submissions not exceeding 1000 words (excluding references) must describe original research or research-in-progress (i.e. not submitted or published elsewhere). Contact information of the corresponding authors has to be included. The deadline for submissions is 15 June 2001. Based on the decision of the programme committee, full papers will be submitted after the workshop. They will go through a rigorous reviewing process. Best papers might be considered for publication in a special issue of an international journal.
All submissions and questions should be addressed to the co-chairs of RSEEM 01, Mareike Schoop and Rita Walczuch (rseem01@i5.informatik.rwth-aachen.de).
Registration Fee ================
The all-inclusive registration fee will be around 200 Euro.
