Dear colleagues,
we like to direct your attention to the following call.
Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this CfP.
Please distribute this information to colleagues who might be interested.
Consider submitting a contribution and/or participating in this very interesting interdisciplinary conference.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- extended deadline for abstract submission: October 7, 2001 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all have been shocked by the tragic terror attacks of September 11 in the USA and would like to express our deepest sympathy for all our American friends. Of course, several normal activities have been delayed for this reason. Taking this into account, the program committee has extended the deadline for abstracts of IDPT 2002 contributions.

Important Due Dates: abstract submission October 7, 2001 (was September 15) feedback on abstract October 13, 2001 full paper submission January 15, 2002 notification of final acceptance by PC March 1, 2002 final manuscript March 15, 2002
Session Description ------------------- The evolution of digital multimedia technologies, together with rapidly growing processing, networking, and communication facilities, is driving the creation of new types of media-oriented software systems as well as the incorporation of multimedia features into traditional software systems, like information, simulation, or even embedded systems. As these systems continue to gain higher complexity, it is necessary to apply and adapt software engineering techniques to the domain of multimedia systems in order to maintain multimedia software development projects manageable.
It is the aim of this session to present state-of-the-art approaches of applying software engineering techniques to the development of multimedia systems. The intended focus is on modeling and specification techniques as well as integration of modeling activities within a multimedia software development process and the interrelations between multimedia modeling and implementation techniques, e.g., authoring systems, multimedia frameworks, multimedia programming support, standard multimedia formats. These topics may be addressed on the level of concepts, languages, methods, or tools. We encourage authors and participants to present and discuss technical papers contributing research and development results with both practical and scientific relevance.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): - specification and modeling techniques (languages, methods, tools) for multimedia and hypermedia systems, - model-based multimedia development in practice, - theoretical foundation of multimedia system modeling, - modeling as part of a multimedia (software) development process, - spatial and/or temporal modeling, - integration of user interaction modeling and (real-)time behavior modeling, - architectural modeling for (distributed/concurrent) multimedia systems, - object-oriented modeling or implementation of multimedia systems, - integration of user interface modeling (development) and (multimedia) application/system modeling (development), - automatic or interactive generation of multimedia systems from models, - multimedia authoring, - multimedia frameworks, - multimedia programming languages, tools, or environments, - multimedia development using multimedia standards.
Submission & Publication Process --------------------------------- Submit a 200-word abstract by e-mail to one of the session organizers by October 7, 2001. Abstract submissions must include: Title, Authors' Full Name/Names, Affiliations and Addresses, E- mail Address, Fax, and Telephone.
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed and authors will be provided with feedback by the session organizers. Based on this feedback, the full paper (up to 10 pages) is due by January 15, 2002. Full papers should be submitted by e-mail to one of the session organizers.
According to the conference rules, each submitted paper will be reviewed and evaluated by the program committee based on at least three referee reports. The PC will make a decision by March 1, 2002, and the final version of the full paper is due by March 15, 2002.
All accepted papers should be prepared in Microsoft Word, postscript (ps) or PDF and e-mailed as attachments to the session organizer.
All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Abstracts will be published in hard copy and the full papers on CD. Furthermore, competitively selected papers will be reviewed for publication in the SDPS Transactions: Journal of Integrated Design and Process Science.
IDPT 2002 --------- The IDPT Conference is a major international forum for the integration of design and process technologies to create a symbiotic relationship among scientists, engineers, software developers, decision makers, and other critical thinkers. IDPT is organized by the Society for Design and Process Science (SDPS http://www.sdpsnet.org/) and traditionally covers all topics of integrated design and process technology in software development as well as mechanical and other areas of engineering. IDPT is certainly one of the most challenging conferences combining different communities from Computer Science and Engineering.
The IDPT 2002 conference will be chaired by Bernd Kraemer (Germany) and John C. Peterson (CA). Program Chairs are Hartmut Ehrig (Germany) and Atila Ertas (TX).
The conference program will consist of invited and selected papers. Plenary sessions and keynote addresses will be presented by prominent speakers.
More information regarding IDPT 2002 can be found at: Society for Design and Process Science: http://www.sdpsnet.org/ Conference Brochure: http://www.sdpsnet.org/Other_PDFs/2002IDPT.pdf
