Semantic technologies are gaining momentum and they are currently achieving a certain degree of maturity. They provide a consistent and reliable basis to face the challenges for organization, manipulation and visualization of the data and knowledge, playing a crucial role as the technological basis of the development of a large number of Computational Intelligence systems. These technologies draw on standard and novel techniques from various disciplines within Computer Science, including Knowledge Engineering, Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Databases, Software Agents, etc. The methods and tools developed and integrated for this purpose are generic and have a very large application potential in a large amounts of fields like Information Retrieval, Semantic Searches, Information Integration, Information Interoperability, Bioinformatics, eHealth, eLearning, Software Engineering, eCommerce, eGovernment, Social Networks, etc. The aim of this special issue is to collect innovative and high-quality research contributions regarding the role played by the Semantic Technologies in computational systems, paying special attention to programming techniques and tools. This special issue aims at exploring the recent advances insemantic technologies and its application in computational systems soliciting original scientific contributions in the form of theoretical and experimental research and case studies. The topics of this special issue include but are not limited to the application of semantic technologies in the development of software systems with foundations on:
• Knowledge Representation and Reasoning • Knowledge Acquisition • Ontological Engineering • Ontology Sharing and Reuse • Ontology Matching and Alignment • Ontology Learning and Population • Decision Support Systems • Human-machine Interfaces • Intelligent Multi-agent Systems • Applications and Case-studies • Application Programming Interfaces for Semantic Web Application domains of interest include finance, open innovation, healthcare, digital libraries, organizational learning, knowledge management, e-government, eLearning, decision support, and multimedia systems.
Submission Guidelines Papers submitted must have not been published previously or under consideration for publication, though they may represent significant extensions of prior work. Manuscripts should be submitted online at http://ees.elsevier.com/scico/ (see the EES User Guide for Authors). Authors should select “Semantic techs SI” in EES platform when they will be asked for type of submission. Timeline - Full initial paper submission deadline: March 31, 2013 (Extended) - First Review deadline: 1 June 2013 - Revised paper submission deadline: (if required) 1 August 2013 - Second Review deadline: 1 October 2013 - Camera-ready paper submission deadline: 15 November 2013
