Eight
Doctoral Student position in Information Systems or
Software Engineering, for a period of four years
Department of
Information Processing Science at the University of Oulu,
Finland, has an opening for eight (8) doctoral student
positions in Information Systems (IS) or Software
Engineering (SE). The research performed
by the doctoral students should fit or complement the
following areas/research groups:
(a)
INTERACT; understanding and supporting participatory design,
user-centered design, user innovation and human interaction
with technology in divergent everyday life contexts (
http://www.oulu.fi/tol/node/20094).
(b)
OASIS; persuasive design and technology; behavior change;
the humanized web; social web innovation; human-computer
interaction; customer engagement; service design; health
informatics (
http://www.oasis.oulu.fi/).
(c) M-Group: empirical
software engineering in national and international projects
with industry. Software intensive systems and services
development methods, techniques and tools (
http://www.oulu.fi/mgroup/)
Recently, both IS and SE research of the Department has
been evaluated as “Excellent” (5/6) in an external
international evaluation of the research at University of
Oulu (RAE 2013).
The applicant must indicate the preferred principal
supervisor(s) and/or the preferred research group(s) in the
application.
Conditions
and requirements
The doctoral
student positions are typically available for 4 years. There
is a teaching obligation.
Starting salary
will be based on the job specific level 2 according to the
university salary system for teaching and research staff of
Finnish universities (about 2100 € per month), and salary
increases as the PhD
work progress. The salary is paid
for 12 months in a year. Additionally, the doctoral students
are entitled to health care benefits.
The applicants
must hold a Master’s degree, an equivalent degree, or a
higher degree (e.g. licentiate) in a relevant field, and be
able to demonstrate sufficient language skills in English or
Finnish. The degree
must have been accredited with good grades (at least 60% of
the maximum grade in both taught studies and the Master’s
thesis. Lower grades and Bachelor level degree holders will
