Introduction and Purpose of the Book The edited book Comparative E-Government: An Examination of E-Government Adoption across Countries will examine the adoption of electronic government or e-government throughout the world. E-government is defined as digital means for citizens and businesses to contact and work with government. E-government is a global phenomenon, and its adoption is critical for government since it provides outreach to its citizens and businesses.
This edited book is in search of chapters from e-government scholars on the adoption of e-government in different countries. The focus will be on both developed and developing countries, examining the benefits and challenges of e-government adoption in nations throughout the world. Comparisons of e-government adoption across several nations would provide particularly interesting chapter contributions.
Audience for the Book The primary audience for the edited book Comparative E-Government will be university professors, graduate students, and professionals in the information systems field. Another audience would be government officials throughout the world that are in the process of adopting or evaluating e-government projects in their respective countries. This edited book will provide practitioners with useful information from different countries� experiences with e-government adoption. Recommended Topics Comparative E-government will examine e-government across the different continents throughout the world. There will be sections on e-government adoption examining specific countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, and South America. Chapters will also be devoted to comparing two or more countries in their adoption of e-government. Chapter contributions examining underrepresented areas of e-government research are especially welcome. The specific topics on e-government adoption is open, however, each chapter should address the unique challenges that the particular country studied is facing.
Submission Procedure Prospective authors should email (chris.reddick@utsa.edu) a copy of a 250 word proposed chapter abstract by June 1, 2009. Their chapter proposal should outline the country or countries that the author(s) would like to examine and the mission and purpose of the proposed chapter. Author(s) of accepted chapter proposals will be notified by June 10, 2009. Full chapters are due by October 1, 2009. All chapters will go through a double blind peer review process. Results of the peer reviews will be announced to authors by December 1, 2009. The final copy of their chapter will be due by January 15, 2010. For this project, authors of chapters are also expected to be reviewers.
