Knowledge management (KM) has been recognized
as an essential component of knowledge-intensive processes,
such as software engineering. Current software development
processes suffer all too often from inappropriate project
costs and duration estimations, cancelation and failures.
The developed software product is frequently found fragile
and unreliable; not fully complying with the requirements;
difficult to upgrade and more. KM can facilitate software
engineering by different ways, e.g., increasing the reuse of
development experience, processes and products and creating
a communication layer between developers and end-users.
Current KM systems enable to organize the accumulated
experience for better storage and retrieval and open
internal communication channels within the development teams
and external communication channels between the organization
and the end-users, throughout the development and
integration processes.
The Knowledge Management in Software
Engineering track will focus on research that examines real
settings where KM is embedded in SE (or produced with the
SE), evaluating its role and influence on the software
development process and its outcomes.
Papers should clearly establish the research
contribution and the relation to previous research.
Suggested
topics:
·
Tools
and technologies for managing knowledge in SE
·
Methodologies
for embedding KM practices in SE
·
Empirical
evidence for implementing KM in SE: risks, costs and
benefits, and lessons learned
·
KM
models in SE
·
Key
performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring and evaluating
the influence of KM
·
Incentive
programs for enhancing KM adoption
·
KM
in worldwide-distributed development teams
·

as derived product of system usage analysis (e.g.
usage patterns, tacit
organizational culture and processes
)
·
KM
and SE decision making
·
KM
contribution to efficiency (e.g. reuse, cost reduction)
·
SE
developer satisfactions.

**Motivation**
Modern enterprises face a strong pressure to increase agility
and
competitiveness, to operate on the global market, and to
engage in
manifold alliances. However, the vast majority of strategic
initiatives
in enterprises fail, meaning that enterprises are unable to
gain
success
from their strategy. The key reason for these failures is the
lack of
coherence and consistency among the various components of an
enterprise.
At the same time, the need to operate as a unified and
integrated
whole
is becoming increasingly important. Currently, these
challenges are
dominantly addressed from a functional or managerial
perspective, as
advocated by the management and organization sciences, and as
implemented in MBA programs. Such knowledge is indeed
necessary for
managing an enterprise, but it is inadequate for bringing
about
changes
in a fully systematic and integrated way. To do that, one
needs to
take a
constructional or engineering perspective.
In addition, both organizations and software applications are
complex
systems, prone to entropy. This means that in the course of
time, the
costs of bringing about similar changes increase in a way that
is
known
as combinatorial explosion. Entropy can be reduced and managed
effectively through modular design based on atomic elements.
Lastly, the individual persons in an enterprise, in
cooperation, are
ultimately responsible for the effective and efficient
operation of
the
enterprise. They are also collectively responsible for the
evolution
of
the enterprise, in order to meet new challenges. These
responsibilities
can only be borne if members have an appropriate knowledge and
an
effective awareness of the construction of the enterprise
given by a
sound engineering aproach.
**Focus and Goal**
The Enterprise Engineering Working Conference 2014 is the
fourth
working conference in the emerging field of Enterprise
Engineering.
The
goal of the conference is to gather academics and
practitioners in
order
to share innovative research issues and practical experiences,
and to
facilitate profound discussions about the challenges mentioned
above.
It
is the mission of the discipline of Enterprise Engineering to
develop
new, appropriate theories, models, methods and other artifacts
for the
analysis, design, implementation, and governance of
enterprises by
combining (relevant parts of) management and organization
science,
information systems science, and computer science. The
ambition is to
address traditional topics in said disciplines from the
Enterprise
Engineering Paradigm
<http://ciaonetwork.org/phplist/lt.php?id=YU0CBRoBAR1SDQ>
. The result of the efforts should be theoretically rigorous
and
practically relevant.

================== COOP 2014 - FINAL CALL FOR WORKSHOP
PROPOSALS =====================
11th International Conference on the Design of Cooperative
Systems. Nice (France).
27-30 May 2014 (workshops to be held on 27th May).
Submission Deadline for workshop proposals: 6th January 2014
http://coop2014.wordpress.com
=======================================================================================
COOP 2014 will be the 11th edition of the COOP conference and
will take place in Nice (France), hosted by the Maison des
Sciences de I?Homme et de la Soci?t? Sud Est. Historically,
COOP brought together the French tradition in Cognitive
Ergonomics and the European tradition of CSCW. However, the
focus on COOP has now been extended to include a wider set of
research questions on technologies and related issues within
different social and organisational settings. The conference
aims at bringing together researchers who contribute to the
analysis and design of cooperative systems, their integration
in organizations and other settings, and their implications
for policy and decision-making.
Workshops proposals submitted to COOP 2014 may vary from an
explorative space for cutting-edge developments and
theoretical aspects to addressing specific themes emerging
from current research. They should provide an opportunity to
discuss and explore emerging areas of research on designing
cooperative systems with a group of like minded researchers
and practitioners. COOP conferences are known for being
discussion oriented and the workshops shall share this
characteristic. Topics of workshops may be any aspect of
theory or practice, established concerns or new ideas in the
field of the design of cooperative systems. The goal of a
workshop is to share understandings and experiences, to foster
research communities, to learn from each other and to envision
future directions.
Workshops can be run for half or one full day, and will take
place the day before the main conference, on the 27th of May
2014. Workshops will be open to their participants and to
conference participants who will pay workshop registration
fees. Workshops organizers will be offered the possibility to
present main topics and to report results of their workshops
in a special session during the main conference. It will be
the organizers? responsibility to select a panellist who can
present the workshop outcomes during the main conference. The
exact format of this session will be decided in concert with
the workshop organisers also depending on the level of
collective desire to report back.
For a sample of workshop topics from last conferences, please
look at websites from previous COOP workshop programs
(http://coop-2012.grenoble-inp.fr/wprogram.html).
============ PROPOSAL SUBMISSIONS ============
Workshop proposals should consist of an abstract and a
detailed proposal. The abstract should be no more than 150
words. The body of the proposal should be no more than 3000
words, and should include:
? Title of the workshop
? Organizers and their background,
? Description of the theme(s) of the workshop,
? Workshop activities and goals,
? Type of interaction planned for the workshop,
? Intended audience and maximum number of participants,
? Related work,
? Duration (half or full day),
? Reviewing process,
? Plans for publicity (advertising for the workshop) and
participant acquisition and
