Information management is becoming increasingly : important in addition to the already optimised physical distribution of : goods. : The transition of retail companies from mediators of physical goods to : information mediators is only one development that will affect the way : we will look at retail companies in the future. : : Information systems and their application play a major role in today's : retail companies ranging from the standardised merchandise information : systems on the one hand to the application of specialised data mining tools : to extract customer behaviour patterns from POS scanner data on the other : hand.
