********************************************************************* *Call for Papers: WI2020-Track “Social Media in Business and Society” * *15. Internationale Konferenz Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI 2020), 9.-11. März in Potsdam* http://wi2020.de/
*Track Chairs* Matthias Trier, Universität Paderborn Christian Meske, Freie Universität Berlin Annika Baumann, Universität Potsdam *Track Description* Social media, mobile devices and other media channel continue to enjoy great popularity and have become an integral part of everyday life for millions of individuals all around the world. Due to their ubiquitous and dynamic nature, those phenomena influence the way how individuals communicate with each other, how they access and distribute information, how they work and spend their leisure time and how they procure goods and services. Even though research in this area has a long history, we still lack a full understanding of the consequences the use of these media has on the level of individuals, organizations and society. Both bright and dark sides have been associated with the use of social media. On the bright side, we see advantages such as the facilitation of interconnectedness and increased access to information. On the dark side effects such as information overload, loss of privacy, mental health issues and the spread of false information have been reported.
As social media can be seen as a highly controversial topic creating a state of uncertainty how to strengthen the positive impacts and lessen the negative ones this track seeks to attract research which advances knowledge in the field further. We especially welcome submissions focusing on recent phenomena in the context of social technologies on the level of individuals, organizations and society. The track is open to all types of research, conceptual or empirical.
